Best Cable Modem I ever use

Stan, B&H Photo
  • Excerpt: I was with Comcast for few years until last year I switch to ATT. When I use Comcast, I rent their modem for $/month. I'd been replace the modem 3 times due to varies problem. They always give me a old model modem. I have to reboot it every other week. This time I come back to Comcast I decided to buy myself a good modem instead of keep paying the rent. I'd been using this one for more than 3 weeks but never did a reboot. My plan is 50MPS but I always get 56MPS.

Solid Cable Modem

Kaiser, B&H Photo

  • Excerpt: Quick and easy setup. Bought the standard Surfboard modem (without built-in wireless) since TMobile is currently offering its subscribers a free Asus wireless router ($ Deposit). Solid fast speeds and haven't experienced any drop or connectivity issues.

  • Excerpt: Bought this to avoid paying rental to comcast, whent hey wanted to upgrade our modem to their WiFi version and give free WiFi to neighbors. took a bit of doing to get it working (The online activation on Comcast website didn't work, so we had to do a phone call.. and the person manning the line was not all that savvy), but once we got it working, it's working flawlessly.

Pleased with SB6141 and BH Photo

  • Excerpt: Modem was easy to set up with call to my cable service provider. I have no complaints about the performance and BH Photos price and shipping were great. Not so thrilled with the white case color. Be aware that the status lights are really bright. Kind of like the sequential landing lights at an airport. Had to turn the modem to face the wall to alleviate that feature.

Soild speeds

Jacob K., Newegg

  • Summary: It's a docsis 3.0 modem, it makes my computer stream those kinds of sites quicker. Giggity.
  • Pros: A little expensive for what it is, a modem. Only upgraded because cox doubled their speeds and my old docsis 2.0 wasn't able to deliver any more. Works as advertised, but almost didn't. see con(s).
  • Cons: The HFC Mac address on the label on the bottom of the modem, and the label on the quick start guide did not match what the firmware listed on the modems addresses page. When I called cox to provision the modem I gave them the HFC mac address listed on the paper work. After several hours of call backs and re-provisioning, I noticed the discrepancy in the addresses tab of the modem webportal. Had I not thought to look though there I would never had gotten the modem to w...

  • Summary: Its a Docsis 3.0 cable modem. Going from Docsis 2.0 was the objective to get more out of my cable internet connection and towards the advertised available bandwidth for my plan. Mission accomplished!

Avoid this modem

John P., Newegg
  • Summary: Possibly just a bad modem. I called Motorola tech support and I got a recording saying this call cannot be completed and it hung up. So I'm out $100.
  • Pros: It worked for three months
  • Cons: This modem has a really cheap ethernet controller. I had it connected to a surge protector that protected both coaxial and power against surges. One power outage and the controller went dead. Windows would prompt me that a cable was unplugged. Nothing else electronic in my house suffered any kind of damage so I can only assume that the controller just failed.

One year usage

Lyndell B., Newegg

  • Summary: You could do much worse, this cable modem works and works well.
  • Pros: Like many reviews here, just connect this cable modem in, hook up your PC and/or home router and you are off an running. I've ran this cable modem for the last year and its not missed a beat. I've had to move three times and each time it was just as easy. I use an older link sys home router with DD-WRT (linux) on it and between these two items I NEVER have to reboot anything for Internet access. Couldn't say that for the original cable modem Time Warner provided some ...

Great cable modem

Wayne T., Newegg

  • Summary: Payback in 14 months.
  • Pros: Just plugged it in, called to have it activated, and it works. Faster than the old cable owned modem. Mostly seen in faster loading of individual items, like email images. So far no problems, works flawlessly out of the box.
