  • Summary: The Sony MZ-NHF800 Hi-MD Minidisc Walkman is an awesome machine that is equipped with AM/FM/TV/Weatherband radio controls. With the 1 GB minidiscs and the minidisc-compatible technology that has been created since 2004, when I purchased this item, there is so much that you can do with this recorder...

  • Summary: I bought this product a little over a year ago, and was happy with it for a while. Then it malfunctioned. Sony duly replaced the unit. The unit went unused for a while and then once i began to use it for a while lo and behold, it malfunctioned again in exactly the same manner.

Useful tool but UI is a bit too complicated

11 May 2005
  • Summary: I use MZ-NHF800 to record guitar lessons and rehearsals of my band. At home I plug MD into Pandora guitar box (that has looper/phrase trainer capability) and transcribe the lesson. Being able to record 45hrs of lessons on one disk is very convenient.

A terrific recorder!

A. Poulios, Amazon
10 May 2005
  • Summary: I bought this recorder as soon as it was released and though I was initially disappointed with the restriction in converting uploaded files into .wav files, this has now been solved! This recorder will be an invaluable tool if you are interested in making live recordings and burning them on CDs.

No problems ..........just challenges

  • Summary: Having lost the 707 Mini Disc player which I had for 2 years, I have just replaced it with this model. I picked this model because it offered everything I needed at a reasonable price. I could not find any reason to buy the 900 for $50 more.

Terrific sound -- one troubling glitch

SteelBlue, Amazon
7 May 2005
  • Summary: The sound on this little unit is fantastic! I don't care that much about disc capacity so I record at Hi-MD 256 kbps and it's virtually indistinguishable from the best CD sound. The trouble is that I bought this unit (instead of an IPod etc.) in order to make microphone recordings.

Recording to CD

Amazon
6 May 2005
  • Summary: I am yet to buy one of these but it looks fantastic. I want to use it for recording but converting stuff won't be a problem. Why? Transfer the file, open the software, open a decent sound recorder (not old windows one, but media player 8-9-10 might do the job) and set it up to capture at the quality...

Wow!! A versatile little gem.

  • Summary: I've been looking at mp3 players for awhile, but ended up waiting for this little gem to become available. Glad I waited! Let me explain one thing, though - I don't download from file sharing services, so I can't vouch for how it works with those files.

Huge Disappointment

Shawn Smith, Amazon
3 May 2005
  • Summary: I just purchased this Sony Hi-MD with the expectation that I could record my own home-made music, upload it to the computer, and burn CD's - a reasonable expectation. Warning to all musicians: You cannot burn CDs that will play in ordinary CD players.

Can not upload music recorded before to PC

Charlie, Amazon
2 May 2005
  • Summary: If you hope you can upload music you recorded before, you will be disappointed. You only can upload music recorded with this player. Another problem is that you can not record FM program even though the player comes with a FM tuner.
