Summary: Item was purchased at an appliance store and not at amazon. The magnetron that powers my microwave died after one year of light use. I still have the unit (because the covection oven part still works) and bought a countertop microwave to replace it, which takes up valuable countertop space. The convection oven has a convoluted menu program which annoyes me.
Many Magnetron failures apparently from all Manufacturers

Summary: New Home with all whirlpool gold appliances. Builder provided 2nd year of warranty. Microwave worked very well for two years 1 month. Magnetron failed and was replaced under 5 year magnetron warranty. My cost $295. 11months later new Magnetron was arcing and buzzing, failed and replaced under 2nd magnetron warranty.
Lasted 4 years, magnatron and another board fried, also handle is cracked.

Summary: Lasted 4 years, magnetron and another board fried, also the handle is cracked. I liked it while it worked but when the magnetron goes, the part is so expensive, you may as well get a new microwave. Reading other reviews I learned that Maytag warrantees the magnetron for 10 years. It looks like other companies (foreign) also do that. Of course you have to pay for service but it is a very expensive part!
Summary: Have had this microwave model replaced twice due to defective magnatron. Both microwaves were used less than 6 months. Luckily, they were still under warranty. This time Whirlpool is offering me a different model as a replacement. Keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't have the same problem.
Summary: Yet once again I have been stung by Whirlpool and their INFERIOR PRODUCTS and WORTHLESS MANUFACTURE'S WARRANTIES. The latest one being an above range microwave unit that is less than one year old. The plastic is cracking on the door near the glass insert. According to Whirlpool's customer service, "...it is considered a cosmetic issue and is therefore not covered by the manufactures warranty." Shame on WHIRLPOOL.
Summary: The microwave offers a very large interior, easy installation and many functions and timings that have proven useful, but can be disabled if you prefer. The recessed turntable adds interior space and the defrost and reheating settings are accurate. This is written to offer a positive review to counter the uniformly negative reviews and ratings posted to date for this product.
broken after 4 months, whirlpool service is terrible
4 June 2012
Summary: We have had this microwave for 6 months. It has been broken for 2 of those months. It's under the 1 year warranty, but at this rate they'll never fix it in time. We've had 3 service visits so far. They've rescheduled the 4th visit on us twice. The customer service is awful! DON'T BUY a Whirlpool microwave! I wish I had read the reviews here before I did. It seems like no company makes a reliable over-the-range microwave anymore, but this one is the worst.
Summary: Do not buy anything with a Whirlpool label on it, unless you want overpriced appliances that will break down. Microwave stopped heating after 10 months with very little use. We had it serviced and had the same exact problem 3 months later. Guess what? Out of warranty since its been a year so I am out of luck. What makes the matter worse, is that calling Whirlpool is useless. They do not care and will not work with you in any way at all.
Summary: We just had our third anniversary in a brand new house, bought with brand new appliances - all Whirlpool. The oven failed just days before the 1 year warranty. Due to that issue I extended the warranty by a year for $80. Asinine, but proved to be a good buy since the entire circuit board had to be replaced in year two. Now the microwave/hood has failed (F7 error) at the 3 year mark. Don't waste your money on these products.
