Summary: Bought in October 2010 November 2010 - magnetron blew March 2011 - magnetron blew November 2011 - magnetron blew December 2011 - magnetron blew - xtended warranty will not fix - say unit is defective - Whirlpool will not replace - SOL.
Summary: I have had a very similar experience with this Make/Model microwave as the other reviews have provided. My microwave lasted 18 months before the zapping and failure to heat occured. Even though there is clearly a parts defect on this microwave, Whirlpool is not standing behind their product (no help when contacted).
Summary: The microwave works fine. The convection feature is loud and obnoxious. I put a pizza in for 15 minutes and shut it off after 8 minutes. My family couldn't take the noise. It doesn't sound right. So now after only owning the unit for 1 week I have service coming out. Not thrilled with this unit!
Summary: I have owned one for less than 2 1/2 years and have had to replace the magnatron twice because the unit quit heating. First time it was replaced after 18 months and the second time at 29 months. Whirlpool customer service is poorly lacking and unresponsive to customer concerns. Have always owned Whirlpool products but will switch to an alternate brand due to poor service response.

Summary: we had a mod# gmh6185xvs1 and the tube has gone out 2 times in a little over 1 year, finally got company to replace first one after many calls and sending proof we had only been in house less than 1 year, then went out again 4 months later and the company would not do anything about it, so i would not recomend it to anyone or would i buy anything with whirlpool name on it.
Summary: This microwave is very loud when using the convection oven. The microwave portion quit after a little over 1 year of use. The last Amana microwave we had lasted over 10 years and we will end up putting that one back up.
Summary: Purchased 10/2010 Used sparingly until 11/2011 when the HV transformer began arcing! Service technician diagnosed bad transformer, magnetron, diode and capacitor! Total of over $500 in parts alone! WHIRLPOOL WILL NOT HELP OUT IN ANY WAY!!!!!!! SORRY BUT ITS A FEW DAYS OUT OF WARRANTY. Don't make the same mistake as the rest of us! This unit is complete JUNK and WHIRLPOOL DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT! I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ONE OF THIER PRODUCTS AGAIN!
Summary: Remodeled our FL kitchen in December of 2009 with all Whirlpool Gold appliances, including this microwave. House has seasonal use, so the total use time has been under 10 months. Magnetron failed and repair cost was 2/3 of the cost of a new microwave. Whirlpool is not interested in making any type of concession to the fact that magnetron failure is endemic in this model.
Summary: Bought this microwave in August '10 and loved it, until it died in November. Manufacturer's warranty covered the repairs that time. But it died again three days after the warranty expired and Whirpool will not pay for repairs. This microwave looks great, has great features, and really did a great job. But now it's an expensive piece of junk. I'll buy another brand rather than waste money fixing this one again.
