Summary: I waited until I had owned this oven for 8 months in order to give an experienced review. These microwave/convection oven combos are not easy to find in stores, but I suspect it's because most people don't know about them yet and so there's no demand. Why have an ordinary microwave that you use mostly to heat things up, when you can have a microwave/convection oven combo that can also bake frozen 12 inch pizzas, canned biscuits & cookies ?
Summary: Works great. Everything I expected it to be. Don't really use convection. Only tried it twice but does what it is supposed to do. Cooks in almost half the time of putting it in the oven and doesn't heat up the kitchen.
Summary: We are very pleased. Package arrived in less than a week after order was placed. It worked immediately. This is my third one. The first one is still working in the motor home. The second one was still working after 10 years of use in the kitchen, but I replaced it because we badly over-cooked some meat and the stink of burned meat got pretty strong. Someone set the time for 20 minutes instead of 2 minutes a year ago. Cleaned it and used it for a year more.
Summary: The display for setting cooking times and levels, etc., was very dim and illegible. So the oven was useless. The vendor gave me the choice of returning the oven (a hassle) or a 50% refund. I chose the refund. Are there any good convection microwaves out there?
Summary: You might need a shot of whiskey to calm your nerves after using the Sharp R-820B. As an ER doctor, I've been in the same room as murderers who sliced up their friends. That didn't scare me, but this oven does. It produces large incandescent arcs with a terrifying zapping-popping-humming sound, as if all of the power in the North American grid were channeled into this device that seems hell-bent on destroying itself -- and, I feared, anyone in its vicinity.
Summary: October 20, 2011 We bought this as a replacement for a microwave that broke, hoping to be able to get rid of the convection toaster oven altogether and free up some space. We received the unit Tuesday night at 9:00 PM and had decided by 9:00 the next morning to send it back for a refund. Here's why. 1. DISPLAY A. One of the LEDs in the display never did work, i.e., when it was supposed to be on it remained off. This bespeaks of poor quality control at the factory. B.
Summary: It works well enough and cooks fine, but my family has not taken to the "high maitenance" of this unit. To use the auto buttons you have to always consult the manual, so instead, my family never uses those buttons (which defeats all the benefits of the convection options). Also, we are always forgetting to "boost up" the popcorn (you have to raise up microwave popcorn onto an overturned pie pan) which means our 1st batch of the night typically gets ruined.
Summary: It is pretty sad that the life span of the Sharp product line has so eroded. I bought a Sharp R-820BW in August/2008. After only 18 months the microwave has stopped working. The Sharp R-820BW was purchased to replace a Sharp Carousel bought in 1983 which lasted 25 years! Now I must decide if I want to pay over $100.00 for servicing or buy a new unit - so much for GREEN.
