Summary: Our old Sears microwave died twice in thirty months, so I looked for a quality microwave that had a good warranty. This has the pretty-standard one-year basic warranty, but it has five years on the magnetron--which is the part most likely to fail and/or cost the most to repair. The first R-409K I got was a floor model and the light was out. The second one had a very loud hum and didn't cook.
Summary: We bought a Sharp 409 series microwave from a big box store a week ago. It worked ok, but was very noisy. Turns out that when we used it to cook rice, and had it run 14 minutes that the noise was from a non working fan. This caused smoke to fill the house from burning wiring etc. Store and Sharp just want to exchange the unit.
Summary: My mother just gave me one of these and I'm very happy with it. It's big enough to fit bowl of rice and it works well. It even reminds you that you left something inside the microwave by making those little beeping sounds every minute or so. The controls are pretty easy to figure out, too.
Summary: This is the worst microwave I have ever purchased. This microwave only worked for 3 months. I bought this microwave after reading the reviews but I must say that I am highly disappointed with this purchase and will not encourage anybody to buy this item. For the last two days, this microwave started making loud sounds and just now, it started smelling like some internal part got burnt inside.
