Summary: Sadly, our NN-SD797S Panasonic microwave is dead-by-door switch. We've had it less than 2 years now and clearly many here have the same issue with this model. Normally I'd make a change but we did the built in kit and it was more expensive than the microwave itself. :( Now the hard choice... buy another and know it's a throw away or bite the bullet and go to a different brand/model and have to do the built in kit for it. No good choices it seems.
Pros: good features, fast cooking
Cons: Did not meet expectations, Poor quality, very poor door latching design
Summary: We bought a Panasonic NN-SD797S microwave back in October 2011 and it has completely stopped working after moderate use. From the beginning the door had required a hard push to close which was quite annoying. However, now the door mechanism has completely failed( July 2013.) My wife called couple of local appliance repair shops, and they all said don't bother repairing this unit.
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Did not meet expectations, Poor quality, poor design
The latch failed after a year. Don't buy. (edit: i fixed it temporarily with pliers, screwdriver and dowels)

Summary: It was an incredible microwave for a little over a year--and then the door latch failed. Same problem dozens of other reviewers are having. Need to slam the crap out of the door to get it to register as closed, otherwise the light stays on and the oven won't start. Don't buy unless you're happy with replacing every year. Edit: A few months later, the door no longer registered as closed, ever.
Summary: Stupid controls and shoddy construction. Microwaving was OK - maybe 3 out of 5 starts). About 14 months after purchase door would not close properly. Have a co-worker with the same issue as well. This means that the internal switch does not sense the door is closed and it will not activate the microwave.
Summary: I bought this in Oct of 2012. It started giving us issues about a year later and it has officially died on 2/1/2014. Nice looking product but it ended up being junk that the company wouldn't stand behind. There is a 1 year warranty period but once you are outside of that there are no exceptions.
Cons: Did not meet expectations, Poor quality, company doesn't stand behind product after 16 mtgs
