Summary: This was a replacement of our last Panasonic microwave. We like the unit but our last one only lasted 8 years and according to the sales person, that is good. I believe that these units should last longer than 8 years after spending $200.
Summary: Let me start out by saying that this unit is fantastic. It does just about everything you would want to do with a microwave. I give it 4 stars only because of the issue I will write about below. I recently purchased this microwave and quickly noticed that I was going to have the same issues that many other people were having regarding the door not opening when the button was pressed.
Summary: First off, for the people who have had problems with their microwave, they must have a defective product. I have owned several microwaves over many years and this one is great. It is very intuitive to use and the rotating knob is fast and easy. The other reviewer who commented on keypads is spot on, the knob wins this battle. I also happen to be the typical male who only reheats items in their microwave.

Summary: Our microwave is indispensable. We eat leftovers at least three nights a week, reheating stir fry, stews and meat dishes. Using the one-touch Genius Sensor cook/reheat feature on the Panasonic Prestige microwave oven ensures consistent results - no boiling over and no overcooking. We have two sons (ages 9 and 7), so we're preparing bigger meals, in greater quantities than when they were toddlers. Our microwave stays busy, mainly defrosting meats and steaming vegetables.
Summary: After reading about some of the problems that people have had with this microwave, I want to say that we have had it for 18 months now and it is working perfectly. We also bought the frame to make it "built in" and that looks very nice installed. I think they could have done a better job of listing what the numbers correspond to for the dial cooking - baked potato, frozen vegetables, etc. - I have to scroll through all 18 of them or memorize them.
Summary: Not built like my old Litton that I gave up after 30 years. My last Panasonic was very similar to this and only lasted about 7 years. This seems to be a better unit than competitors' units of similar size.
Pros: Attractive Design, Easy To Clean, Easy To Install, Heats Evenly, Simple Controls, Simple Display
Summary: I use the wave for 3 main functions: defrosting, reheating and cooking fresh vegetables. All of the features work well. However, because there is no key pad, cooking times selections are limited. After the first 10 seconds, you get multiples of five and then multiples of 15 seconds. I can live with that based on the way it has performed so far. I bought this to replace a previous model, same brand that lasted for 9 years.
Summary: "So far so good. The only down side in my opinion is the fact that you have to push in the bottom button to open the door. I prefer a handle to pull open but... the price and other reviews of the product won me over. Its great for the way I utilize it!
Summary: Comments about Panasonic Genius Prestige NNSD997S Inverter Microwave Oven: Love this microwave. It is easy to use, but advanced in it's capabilities. It can handle some of the largest dishes I have and evenly and thoroughly heats anything I put in it.
Pros: Attractive Design, Easy To Clean, Easy To Install, Heats Evenly, Powerful, Simple Controls, Simple Display
