Summary: We bought this in July & loved it. About 5 weeks after we received it & 1 week after the return window was closed, it started to shut off in the middle of a setting. For example, I would set something to heat for 1 min., 30 seconds later it would just shut off. This happened to me a couple of times & then stopped. A couple of weeks later it started happening more frequently. I was working fine for the last week & half - then last night it shut down again.
Summary: We've had this unit about 2 years and have already had three problems with it: 1) The turntable motor went out while still under warranty. Panasonic has arranged it so that the nearest authorized service center to Boulder, CO is over an hour's drive away (there's not even one in Denver!), making it impractical to get warranty service (i.e., the warranty is completely worthless since it cost more to make two trips (deliver and pickup) than the oven is worth).
Summary: we ordered one of these about 2 years ago and it worked fine for about a year then actually blew up. i was cooking with it and sparks started flying everywhere. i liked the size of the microwave and since it was out of warranty i ordered another one like it thinking it was just a lemon. ordered my second one (stupid me) on january 22, 2012, and today, february 3, 2013, it blew up. STAY AWAY from this microwave. you will be throwing money away.
Summary: After reading several good reviews on this site i decided to order this oven as a replacement for one that had lasted for about 10 years. There were some not-so-good reviews on other sites, but the majority seemed to be positive. However, after only 15 months this unit too is dead. Seems the magnatron needs replacement, a critical component in the unit as well as expensive. Since the warranty covers the magnetron for 5 years, the part is free but not the labor.
Summary: Purchased 10/31/09 - Died 10/19/12 After less than three years of service, this microwave has breathed its last! It took only a brief internet search to learn that the error code H97 issue is very common and also fatal. We do not live close enough to a repair center to be able to drop it off, and to be honest, it is cheaper to buy a new, simpler and smaller unit than pay to have this monstrosity shipped and repaired.
Summary: I read the other reviews about H-97 and H-98 fatal error codes. Just a tiny per cent, I assured my self. Nothing to worry about. After all, it's a Panasonic. It won't happen to me. Except that it did, after 15 months. So, maybe the part is covered, depending on the part, but the labor isn't, and the service center is a long way away. Gee, I wish I had my old Kenmore back. I gave it away to get this shiny stainless model that looks so good in my kitchen.
Summary: While defrosting some frozen vegetables on a microwave safe plate, the microwave cracked the glass of the plate and the glass platter (pictured here; Panasonic Microwave Glass Tray (16 1/2") A06014M00AP) that came with the microwave (Panasonic Prestige NN-SD997S)! It had not done this before (but I've owned this only since May 21, 2012) and it never happened with my prior microwave. I am very concerned. First, the glass platter is broken.
Summary: The door has always been difficult to close due to the door latch design since the day we bought it. Eventually, it got to the point that you needed to slam it closed 3-4 times to get it to latch properly and run. I give up. It's going in the trash. This is the shortest lived microwave we've ever owned. Very disappointed in this product.
