Summary: I purchased a related model 3 years ago: KHMS2050SSS Mine managed to last for 3 years before suddenly dying. As described in other reviews, it simply stopped heating the food. A well regarded local repair company tried to fix it by replacing the magnetron and a circuit board, but it immediately burned out the new magnetron when the repairman tested it.
Definitely NOT 'top of the line' - FAULTY products which they don't stand behind!

Summary: We just paid over $300 to have the electrical board of this microwave repaired and now the micro doesn't heat the food. All this after less than 3 years. If these were the only issues with our KitchenAid appliances I might be able to get past it, but ALL our KitchenAid products have issues. The fridge is corroding, the stove top doesn't heat properly and the dishwasher doesn't clean nor is the delay button working. Most of this started happening after just one year.
Summary: For such an expensive appliance one would think it would last more than 2 years. That is not the case. The repair bill was not cheap. The service tech even said they have seen a lot of issues with this appliance. If given the choice I would go with a different brand. The KitchenAid customer support was not helpful at all and were unwilling to stand behind the quality of their product.
Summary: We purchased this microwave in April 2011. It immediately started acting "possessed"...it would start beeping and actually start running when no one was near it. In October 2011, we finally had someone come out to look at it. After arguing with Kitchenaid about whether it was under warranty (it was MANUFACTURED in December 2010, so the actual microwave was not even one year old), they finally replaced the entire door.
Summary: Everything still works fine aside from the fact it does not heat anything. KitchenAid said "we only guarantee out products for 1 year" and I would need to pay a consult fee and parts or purchase another year, repair only, warranty for $288.35. Complete waste!
Summary: I purchased this microwave from Pacific sales in May of 2009. In Aug 2011 the microwave began sparking on the inside (arcing) and made loud popping noises. I called Kitchenaid, who sent a repair service ($129 cost to me) who said I would have to replace it. Kitchenaid wanted a second opinion so they sent someone else, who also said it was a fire hazard and would have to be replaced. Kitchenaid said the problem is not under warranty.
Summary: As a self install project, this is a great unit. The instructions are simple and easy to follow and the install is simple up until you have to live the unit onto the wall. The only challenge was mounting it to a 3/4 inch granite back splash, but some longer lag bolts and toggle bolts handled the increased width without a problem. The microwave hood has an intuitive touch screen control that learns your most common uses and offers them up.
