Summary: I immediately noticed that this unit has an appetite for light bulbs and unfortunately the one inside the oven went after only a couple of weeks. I say unfortunate because it appears that this bulb is not meant to be user-serviceable and is a complete pain to get at. You also need to turn the power off to the microwave or risk getting a shock when changing it.
Summary: I had an older GE microwave above my range that died after about 8 years. When looking for a replacement I decided to go for another similar GE in order to swap it out easily, figuring it would use similar hardware. That was my first mistake. There's a steel plate used to mount the oven on the wall plus three big screws that go in from the cabinet on top.
Summary: Lots of control features for both microwave and convection oven. Convection oven does nice job without heating up the whole house. Microwave works as expected, and the dials and buttons are quickly learned. Good built-in help feature for the controls. Based on time ranges listed on food packages, this unit operates at the high end of the microwave power spectrum. Remember that you will need a place to store the convection racks when you use as a microwave.
Summary: When you buy it, the salesman might mention 5 year warranty on the magnetron, but when the magnetron goes out (and it will with this POS - mine lasted almost 4 years), the GE warranty people will not give you a quote for labor when you call them. They say it'll be $85 to drive out to your house. That's fine, I said, but IF it's the magnetron, how much will it cost me in labor to replace it?
Summary: I've had this convection microwave for 4 years & haven't had a problem with it. Overall my experience with it has been great. KEYPAD VS. DIAL My biggest hesitation with choosing this model was that it has the dial knob instead of a keypad. I thought it might be hard to use / interact with the dial, being so accustomed to using keypad microwaves; but it is simple and intuitive. Everybody seems to use it a little bit differently.
Summary: Overall, I really like this microwave-convection oven combo. Mine is black but the unit is the same as the stainless version. The microwave works like any other so nothing to report either way - the convection option is great. Cooking time is the same vs a conventional oven but takes less energy and does not heat up the kitchen. I have cooked roasts, potatoes, cookies, can-biscuits, and other items with great success.
Summary: I purchased this over the range convection microwave/warming oven when I remodeled my kitchen and was excited to save countertop space, have a microwave and convection oven/warming drawer all in one. I was wrong. The controls are not easy to manipulate, and when you are baking with the oven, it keeps beeping. That gets very annoying. The logic with setting time and temp, power level and functions is extremely flawed. Secondly, the microwave is definitely sub-par.
