Mt first GE microwave worked for about 3 months and then caught fire...GE tried to repair it, but I told them NO WAY ...I wanted a new one !!! After much haggling back and forth they did replace it with a new one. The new one lasted slightly over a year and then BANG...same problem....It caught fire the exact same way. When I called 1 800 GE CARES, the acronym turned out to simply be letters. The representative was extremely curt and cared about one question only...HAVE YOU HAD IT MORE THAN A YEAR ??? If so, then basically IT'S YOUR PROBLEM ...For $99 they will send a repairman and you also have to pay for new parts...DUH... Why would I do that when the cost of the unit was $300? When I read other reviews on GE microwaves, many of the reviews were similar to mine....As for GE products...I'm done !!!The service representative clearly let me know that GE really DOES NOT care as they ficticiosly portray.
Title says it all. The first one had to be replaced because the powder paint coating on the inside of the microwave was coming off within the first few months. That was replaced by our home warranty.
The second one just completely died after 18 months (apparently something to do with the magnetron). No longer under warranty of course.
The third lasted just a little over a year. Again, the microwave died. No power whatsoever.
On to number four. The only reason we even considered another GE was the fact that we got such a good deal on it. We just started having issues with it yesterday. I was nuking a potato and it started resetting. I reset the clock and continued nuking the potato. It did that one more time before becoming completely dead. No power whatsoever to the microwave. This time it was at the 11 month mark...hopefully the warranty will cover the repair.
