Summary: Like many people here my expensive GE microwave quit working because of the touch pad. HOWEVER, I found a relatively simple solution that solved my problem - search for YouTube video F_94SxrVXU4 or "Quick repair GE microwave touch control key panel".
Summary: GE Cafe Microwave Flaw: Control Panel freezes or just stops working after a few months to a couple of years, if you're lucky GE has disappointed me big time!!! I will never by another GE appliance again. GE will not stand by their failed products. You must have proof of purchase and be within a five year window before they will replace it or pay for full repair. Otherwise, they will tell you to purchase a new model at a discount price.
Disaster to repair touchscreen $563 part price only
2 February 2014
Summary: I bought a full kitchen of GE Cafe and laundry room of profile. Every item has at least 1 design flaw that is infuriating as an owner. Every item has started failing within 6 months out of warranty. The touchpad on the the microwave is $563 just for the part. It is the entire right hand side of the microwave. The plastic drawers in the refrigerator break. The most expensive one on the bottom is over $200 to replace.
Summary: After one year the fuse blew. Had that fixed and bought the extended warranty - big rip off!!! After 3 years the control panel isn't working. G.E. refuses to replace the part is sending me a check for "replacement" of the microwave because they said it isn't "cost effective" to replace the part. Problem is, check is $300 less than actually replacement. From reading other reviews it sounds like they have an issue with the control panel yet they refuse to acknowledge.
Summary: 2 years in and the touchpad died. On principle I didn't want to pay $700 for a part to fix a crappy microwave that was going to break again so I have been living without a microwave for a year. That part is okay. Living without a hood over my range is a much bigger problem because my fire alarm keeps going off when I cook. GE should be embarrassed.
Summary: The GE Cafe Microwave is poorly designed and fails because of over-the-range heat. Our keypad shorted out and it costs as much to repair/replace that electronic part as it does to replace the the entire range. GE is a company that doesn't stand behind its products and that really doesn't care about its customers. Never again.
Summary: Works great when I first got it after warranty was up touchpad stop working and contacted GE. They said warranty was up and I would have to pay for repairs. After some research on the Internet i was not the only customer with this problem and touchpad was defective but GE is not going to replace it for free. Repairs cost more then microwave. Bad buy stay away!!!!!!!!
Summary: We purchased the GE Cafe Microwave model #CVM2072SM2SS ("manufactured in May 2009) new, not used, in late December, 2012. Here it is 5+ months later and the microwave has stopped working 2x. The first time it stopped working but came to life again by the next morning. This past week it has failed but has not worked for 4 days now. The problem is the Touch Pad. It's deader than a door nail.
Cafe is crap'e. Key pad went out after 3 years GE thousands of copmlaints no recall
Eugene A. Safko "Penn Stater", Amazon
5 May 2013
Summary: This Key pad issue with the GE CAFE microwave is inexcusable, GE knows they have a problem and have elected to skirt the issue. There are thousands of complaints and a recall is in order. I have purchased the CAFE dishwasher and refridgerator. This will be the last GE product I own . They had the oppertunity to do the right thing and failed miserably.
