Good mouse until it's not

Kevin S., Newegg
7 January 2009
  • Summary: If you can find a mouse that's got a similar design but fewer complaints of problems with the mouse buttons, you should probably go with that, unless spending about $30 per year is within your budget.
  • Pros: I love this mouse's construction and feel. It's a very solid mouse for a while, assuming you're right handed. The placement and size of the buttons is perfect for my hand. I've owned several over the past few years. Support in Linux is good, aside from the tilt-wheel functionality, which I've nev...
  • Cons: After a while the left and/or right button invariably stop clicking consistently (on every one I've had), meaning that a casual click will sometimes fail to register. The result is that you have to be more attentive to your clicks and click more firmly, which makes using this mouse very frustrati...

User Review

Jonathan R., Newegg
6 January 2008
  • Summary: This mouse served me well for over a year of gaming, even though I had to learn to use the number keys to switch weapons. Since this one is going bad, I've ordered one of those super-gaming mice with a resolution fine enough to shave a baby with. So, it was a good mouse, but I'm not looking back.
  • Pros: This is really a great mouse. I can't dis it very hard. It's comfortable, still tracks when you move it very fast, has some nice software that comes with it, and has nicely accessible buttons. The smooth-rolling scroll wheel is also very nice for viewing documents and web pages. It would work wel...
  • Cons: After about 14 months of normal usage, the left mouse button finally began giving up the ghost. At first, it didn't always send when the button clicked, so I had to click harder for it to work reliably; after a while, it began to do instantaneous double clicks at random when I pressed the left mo...

doesn't work with all the programs

cary, Amazon
23 August 2007
  • Summary: When I saw this product on amazon, I really liked it, more so for the price. However, I hardly use the fingerprint reader now. Reason: it doesn't work with Windows logon*, MSN messenger and Firefox.... oh did I tell you that Windows and MSN messenger were also made by Microsoft?

Decent replacement mouse.

Cory S., Newegg
7 June 2007
  • Summary: Good as a replacement mouse if you don't feel like dropping a small fortune on a high-grade gaming mouse. I'd give it about a year just like everyone else is. My next purchase is probably going to be a high-grade wired Logitech laser mouse.
  • Pros: Sleek design, responsive mouse buttons, that goes for the side buttons as well. Doesn't seem to respond as well as the Razer Copperhead, but it's still pretty good in terms of DPI and accuracy. Performs on cloth mousing surfaces (Razer Mantis) very well. Very ergonomic design, fits my hand better...
  • Cons: TERRIBLE middle mouse button. Mine DOES click, but you have to click it in a exact spot, and there is about a second delay between the actual button reponse. It's not that big a deal for me though, all I use that mouse button for is Ventrilo. The mouse wheel isn't that good either, it's very loos...

Doesn't Last

Frank S., Newegg
18 May 2007
  • Summary: It would be a great mouse if they could just make the buttons last.
  • Pros: I really like the feel of the mouse and how it fits my hand. The two side buttons are in a pretty good location for ease of use.
  • Cons: I have two of these mice, one at work and the other at home. Both mice have lost the left button. I constantly have to click to get it to work. I thought it was my OS, but putting the old cheapy back on worked fine.

My Review

Anonymous, Newegg
17 February 2007
  • Pros: Nice ergonomic design. I bought this mouse because of the ability of scrolling horizontally, but that feature is not that great.
  • Cons: The left click button has start to failing now. It got to the point that I have to hit it hard now. Mouse is good, but it wears out fast over time. I've own this mouse for a year now.

Good When All The Buttons Work

Anonymous, Newegg
9 December 2006
  • Summary: I have had several mice in the recent Explorer series, including three of these bought at the same time for my three most-used machines. One of these suffered a progressive loss of response to the left button, which came to require multiple clicks or conscious strength in hitting the button.
  • Pros: Very good feel and responsiveness, excellent tracking. I like the "smooth" scroll wheel (although others don't). Comfortable in long use.
  • Cons: The "premature button failure" issue is real. Some units are effected, some aren't.

1 December 2006
  • Summary: Someone else mentioned in their review that the left click button started to not click. Same with me. I'm gonna go with some other mouse next time.
  • Pros: All-around comfort.
  • Cons: Broke after a year or so.

so-so

Anonymous, Newegg
1 December 2006
  • Summary: im gonna get a Logitec MX518 to replace this.
  • Pros: i bought this mouse expecting it would be pretty good for gaming because it has 2 side buttons on it. very comfortable and great for average computer use.
  • Cons: left and right click wear out quickly. mouse wheel doesnt work unless it is at the right angle. mouse whell is hard to move at times. slow reaction time in games compared to my Microsoft Optical Mouse (wow).
