If money is no object, get the Razer Orochi as we recommended above. If you are on a tighter budget go with Logitech’s v470. The only reason to choose the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 is you have really small hands or just really prefer Microsoft branded hardware and want to stay consistent. The other two mice mentioned above are so much better that we cannot recommend the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000. Read more
The Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 is a great mouse that does not have extra bells and whistles but does the job using simplicity and compactness. The performance is quite decent for a small compact notebook mouse, and functionality is sufficient enough to do the job. Comfortable, sleek, and compact, this mouse is perfect for notebook users that have built in Bluetooth functionality. Read more
As mentioned before Microsoft has been a major contributor to the computer industry over the years. The Notebook Mouse 5000 is just another quality product as expected from a reputable company such as Microsoft. The mouse arrived in great shape and the included bag was a welcomed extra that only helps the user keep the mouse clean so it is not eating dust while not in use. The Microsoft 69R-00001 Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 is very well constructed out of plastic. Read more

This is a fairly standard mobile mouse, made in the same style as many previous Microsoft notebook mice. The only significant differences between the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 and many of its predecessors and competitors are its wireless connectivity and laser tracking technologies. Given the fact that so few laptop computers have a Bluetooth transceiver built in, and the wide availability, greater comfort, and lower price of conventional wireless laptop mice, I can't see a good reason to choose the Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 over any others. Overall this is a good product that does exactly what it claims to do. However, there are better laptop mice for the same or similar amounts of money. Read more
Notebook mice are getting more and more popular. They offer 100% of the functionality of a standard mouse, but have it all packed into a smaller package. In addition, seeing that most laptop buyers are consumers that like to be unplugged and free to roam (hence why you buy a laptop), it just makes sense. Read more
Mouse is a little small so it took time transitioning from the average size mouse but is nice for traveling. Overall I think its a pretty good product for the price except almost once a day it will just stop communicating to my computer and I have to switch the mouse on and off to get it to connect again. Not a huge deal but still something to consider. Read more
An excellent little bluetooth mouse, with one major caveat: it's a hell of a lot smaller than you would think. This is great for portability, but be aware, especially if you have large hands. Otherwise it's a fully functioning, very accurate, responsive mouse. Great for gaming. Read more or see product
I would've imagined Microsoft would have a 6000 series by now. I looked at this mouse 3 years ago, and didn't buy it. I finally got a Bluetooth Wifi combo card in my laptop, and I gave this one a shot. Read more
A lot of people complained about this mouse in the reviews, however I think it's a great mouse, could be better like all things, it's not perfect, but it gets the job done. As for that non-reprogrammable back button, I've never had a mouse with such an extra button as that, so I don't really care, and I use the back button sometimes, it's more convenient than not. I have owned a lot of mice in my day, but this one is the best I have ever owned. I have use other Microsoft Mice, but none have acted or felt as good in my hand as this one. I love bluetooth and this mouse really works well. I have two, one for work and one for home. I love how it feels in my hand how it clicks (softly) and how it looks. It is small, so I can travel with it. Read more
Very fast and accurate tracking. It was very easy to set up, took 10 seconds. My Dell Inspiron lap top with built in bluetooth connected easily. Very happy with this mouse. Read more
I have owned my M 5000 for 3 years, it is just now beginning to show signs of old age and this is after it being accidentally DROPPED IN WATER over a year ago. I will by no other mouse for my laptop, hopefully Microsoft keeps making this model - DO YOU HEAR ME BILL G? Don't discontinue this model. I do a lot of photo editing and on-screen air-brush work and this mouse is flawless. Read more
This is an excellent product, working very well and filling my desire to not use a USB port and wireless plug with my new laptop. Problem is, that even remembering to turn it off (via the tiny switch on the bottm) when not in use, the 2 AAA batteries only last about 20 hours of use (rough estimate). I will have to get rechargables and carry a charger if I plan to continue to use this product. My Microsoft USB mouse using AA batteries lasts for weeks. Read more
I'm using this mouse with a MacBook Pro. When the mouse is working, it works well. My only complaint is that the scroll-wheel clicks (as the middle button) a little too easily. I sometimes find myself having to undo an inadvertent operation while scrolling with the wheel. It may be Bluetooth in general, but I sometimes have to fiddle a lot with the mouse/PC to get the mouse working when bring the Mac out of sleep. Read more or see product

The Bluetooth Mouse 5000 features Microsoft’s High Definition Laser technology that delivers a movement resolution of 1000 dpi on almost any surface.
The ambidextrous mouse offers 4 buttons. Apart from the standard left and right mouse button, it has a clickable scroll wheel and a back button. Through the scroll wheel, users can navigate documents, spreadsheets, and web pages without having to use the on-screen scroll bar. The back button allows for easier navigation between folders and web pages. It can also be used to auto-scroll.
The Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse 5000 is compatible with Bluetooth-enabled computers equipped with Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, and Mac OS X 10.2.6 or later.
The mouse is powered by two AAA alkaline batteries that can last up to 3 months. This battery life can be extended by making use of the on/off button located at the bottom of the mouse. A battery status LED located below the scroll wheel allows users to monitor battery life. This battery life indicator glows red when the battery is running low.

should this mouse have a red light for the laser technology? I'm on my second mouse, no red light on either, can't get it to work on my Windows7 laptop. Don't know if its a connection problem or a laser malfunction.
