Excerpt: Hi I was sold a desk top that had windows 8 installed and this cable/software could only be used with Windows 7. You think the salesman would have picked up on that. Anyway it was too late to return it after I had opened the box.
Summary: Spent hours trying to get the cable to work - finally after several calls to Belkin support they told me that it was not compatible with my version of Vista. Not happy with the advertising - the packaging and product info does not let you know that you need to check to see which version of Vista you have - simply states that it works to transfer Vista to Windows 7. I would not recommend.
Excerpt: Didn't realize what was involved until I opened the package and read all the directions. The back of the pack and website make it look easy. If you don't have 2 completely operational computers set up, I don't think you can accomplish the transfer.
Excerpt: I used this "thing". Following the instructions, first I installed the software on my windows vista machine. Then I connected the item. If I needed to restart, I did, just can't remember off the top of my head. Then I clicked on the button that said to transfer. The software analyzed everything and then started to transfer. After about an hour, for no apparent reason, the connection was "lost". It could not reconnect. Nothing was transferred.
Summary: I recently purchased a Windows 7 desktop and I needed a way to transfer files from my XP desktop and my Vista notebook to the new computer. This product states it will work with XP but in my experience it did not. I could not get the computers to connect to each other through the cable after extensive trials and research. A Google search showed others were having the same issues with connecting.
