Kingston HyperX Dual Channel DDR500 (PC4000) Review

PC Modding Malaysia

  • Conclusion: The Kingston HyperX PC4000 certainly left me wanting more (yes, I know I am not easily satisfied), but for the average OCer shooting for a 250MHz FSB (which is a lot already), it should be good enough. A probable cause of the lower than expected performance may be the quirkiness of the AI7 board, which is very picky about the memory it likes.
  • Pros: * Runs at slightly lower timings than specified * Cool blue heatspreaders that dont weigh a ton
  • Cons: * Requires more than the specified voltage on some boards * Does not OC well on certain boards like the AI7? (Board issue?)

  • Conclusion: Kingston has done an excellent job with their PC4000 memory. Although it is basically just overclocked memory at heart, real testing went into the modules to make sure they perform at their advertised speed and voltage. As a result, don?t expect to get much more out of these chips as is without seriously increasing the voltage, and even then you might not get much extra.

  • Conclusion: When it came down to benchmarking I used Futuremark’s PCMark 2004 and SiSoftware’s Sandra as both have specific memory tests. PCMark 2004 gives your memory a score which is then compared against scores given to tests for different memory sticks. Sandra is particularly good as it tests the memory bandwidth and has pre-set scores for the most common memory types to be compared against the calculated bandwidth of the RAM being tested.
