  • Conclusion: Whether blocking out a noisy bus journey or showing a razor-sharp vid on the train, the lack of headphone cables makes the A826K one of the smoothest commuters around – and that’s before you factor in the top sound quality and socket-shunning battery life.
  • Pros: The last time anyone sent news by cable was around the time of the Suez Crisis, so why are we still using outdated wire-based technology to enjoy our digital tunes? Sony snips the sonic apron strings with a bang up-to-date Bluetooth Walkman that can stream music to car stereos, hi-fis or the wireless headphones supplied. Sound quality is beautifully bass-heavy and lively, and you can also pair the headphones with a mobile to pick up calls. The nav-pad operation is eas...
  • Cons: The headphones’ 11-hour battery life can’t rival the monstrous day and a half of audio playback from the A826 itself – and they’re actually heavier (65g) than the player itself. The headphones can occasionally cut out, especially when streaming from the bottom of a bag.

Techworld
23 April 2008
  • Summary: The Sony NWZ-A826 is an excellent example of a multimedia player, one that looks good and benefits superbly from Bluetooth technology. Getting just 4GB capacity for ?139 is rather galling, however.

What Hi-Fi?
18 August 2008
  • Excerpt: Historically, Sony's Walkman brand has given birth to some sensational audio products. Can its latest offering keep up the good work? The NWZ-A826 is Sony's new 4GB entry-level Walkman. Compared to its predecessor, it's slimmer and boasts a more attractive aluminium exterior. The fascia hosts a small, square control pad that allows you to navigate the player's fool-proof menu system.
  • Pros: Excellent sound quality, built-in Bluetooth, easy to use
  • Cons: Price: transferring video can be a pain, supplied headphones sound mediocre

Sony NWZ-A826 review

Stuff.tv
18 March 2008
  • Summary: After winning considerable plaudits for its first video-playing Walkmans, the A810 series, Sony's decided to go right for Apple's jugular. The A820 series features unique functionality and form factor – it’s a player that attempts to blend the pocketability of the iPod Nano and screen real estate of the Touch, and trumps both with built-in Bluetooth audio streaming.
