Horrible! Stay Away from Sony - Sonic Stage products

BigFish "BigFish", Amazon
27 June 2006
  • Summary: The Sonic Stage software is not user friendly. It is a huge pain to use! It sorts and arranges songs in some type of cryptic list. The player is hard to scroll through your songs; it arranges Artist where Album name should be. It's so time consuming to re-arrange manually.

Horrible overpriced player

C. Dsa, Amazon
23 June 2005
  • Summary: Only someone who is from another planet would buy this player. It has problems playing MP3 and WMA files. It forces you to use the dumb Sony software. It costs more than an IPOD.. In short.. buy something else. Sony get your act together.. You invented this category and now you have lost it

Do not buy this MP3 player

The cLuMzter, Amazon
16 June 2005
  • Summary: I never write reviews, but I felt that it was necessary for a potential consumer considering forking out almost $400 bucks to be aware that this is not the product to do it on. Here's why: Terrible software: Read the review prior to mine.

  • Summary: I just bought NW-HD1 for my dad and he is a 67 year old chinese man who loves to hear his chinese music. Even though he loves the machine for it's size but he can't read what is being played because the stupid machine will not support Chinese characters.

Turn back now, before it's too late

Jeffrey C. Lamkin, Amazon
14 January 2005
  • Summary: Great piece of hardware. Fatally flawed software, at least for some of us. Before purchasing, try downloading Sony's Sonic Stage from Connect.com. If you can't get that to work, you'll never get this player off the ground. If you can, you have a prayer of a chance, but you'd better be patient.

One Word - DRM, another word - JUNK

Martin Bures, Amazon
2 December 2004
  • Summary: This product is cool looking. This product is well designed. However, the DRM rules are stupid. It is my music, I should be able to do with it what I want. I do not need to be managed. Their software is HORRID and without it, the device is useless.

Bad software makes it useless.

Patrick E. Murray "pemurray", Amazon
10 November 2004
  • Summary: I loved it when I bought it a few months ago, but now the Sonic Stage software won't recognize the player, so I've got a $400 paperweight. Sonic Stage is hands down the worst software I have ever used. An unexpected disappointment from Sony.

Not as good as iPod

M. Alterio "mach7", Amazon
25 September 2004
  • Summary: Why would you get this when you could get a better player with another 20GB for the same price? A 40GB iPod is the same price as this. Sony bases its "3000-more-songs-than-40gb-ipod" argument on its ATRAC3 compression format, at a comression rate of 48Kbps, which produces horrible quality audio.
