The SanDisk Sansa e280 is a flash memory-based portable multimedia player that was released by California-based SanDisk Corporation on January 5, 2006. It can be used to play audio and video files as well as store and view images.
The player has a scratch-resistant alloy metal casing available only in black. It measures 3.5 x 1.7 x 0.6 inches and weighs approximately 2.7 ounces. It is also available only in an 8 gigabyte capacity but this can be expanded using its slot for microSD cards.
The SanDisk Sansa e280 features a 1.8-inch TFT color LCD display with a resolution of 176 by 220 pixels. There are four navigation buttons available on the front of the player. These are located around the blue LED backlit ring that surrounds the concave button. At the lower left side of the front is a separate menu button.
The player powered by a user-replaceable Lithium-ion rechargeable battery that lasts up to 20 hours of continuous music playback.
The SanDisk Sansa e280 comes equipped with an FM radio. For playing audio files, it supports some of the most common formats including MP3, WMA-DRM 10, and WAV. The player can display album art as well as song information stored in the files’ ID3 tags.
The player only supports files in MJPEG but software is available to convert MPEG-4, WMV, DivX, JPG, and BMP files to that format.
Apart from FM recording, the player supports voice recording which can be done through an integrated microphone.

This player had pretty much everything I was looking for in a player: it was the right price, felt great in my hand, had a bright screen with an easy to navigate menu, and transferred files with no clunky software needed. But it sounded really bad. After trying to get used to the sound for a week I ended up returning it. The EQ is not musical at all, and the bass response out of the player is pathetic. This is my first MP3 player so I cannot personally compare it's performance to iPod or other brands. After reading extensive customer reviews I decided on the Sansa over the iPod Nano because of the FM receiver and ability to play videos as well as twice the capacity for the same price. It seems like a good player and If I really needed somehow the 30+ gigs I would definetly go for the Zune but so far my SanDisk Sansa e280 is doing spectacular.
