Well, it appears that the iPod killer really is a mythical beast, at least for Sandisk. The Sansa e260 has all the trappings of a good iPod slayer: sleek looks, nice features, handy interface, lower price... But the e260 just isn't as easy to use as the mighty Pod. And in a market of blindingly fast change, few folks are going to bother with learning the little idiosyncrasies of a second tier MP3 player when Apple has made the process near idiot-proof. • High quality sound and video, Good user interface, Sleek design, Solid state memory, Good battery life with user replaceable Li-Ion cell, Expandable microSD memory slot

S anDisk is more popular in our side of the world for memory cards that most of the budget conscious buyers avoid in favor of cheaper (and often fake) brands, but in the other parts of the world, their Sansa series of MP3 players have been getting a lot of attention and are more widely appreciated than Creative’s Zens. That makes the Sansa players the second most popular in the world, coming in right after the iPod. Read more

  1. Good but has flaws

GOOD: 1. The player has held up despite a cracked screen and repeated droppings. It's been very sturdy. 2. The Rockbox firmware that I installed works good with the player. I have had some problems that I had to fix, but it's still an easy firmware to use. 3. I love the layout of the buttons, and especially love the scroll wheel. BAD: 1. Firmware stinks, (e.g. can't easily and quickly add songs to the playlist) but if you change to Rockbox firmware, it's great! 2. Read more

I absolutely love this product. I would recommend it to ANY and ALL first time buyers. I've had the same one for almost four years now and it's still in almost perfect condition. It no longer syncs music but that's okay. The battery life is AMAZING. You can go almost all day and have it not die. I went for weeks without charging it but using it every day and it never died! The sound quality is fantastic. I love it so very very much. Read more

SanDisk, best known for flash drives and memory cards, may just have one of the better MP3 players on the market in the SanDisk Sansa e200 series. Reviewers insist that if you are looking for alternative to the iPod and have not been enamored by models from the likes of Creative, Samsung, etc., then you should give this little unit a thorough look-see. Featuring an FM tuner with recording options, the SanDisk Sansa e200 series offers all forms of audio and video playback. The unit offers voice recording capabilities as well as both photo and video playback features. Compact and durable, the SanDisk series offers a tactile navigating wheel and a solidly designed user interface system. It also comes with a user-removable battery.

As with other purchases, the base package is a tad short of complete. Once again, the SanDisk Sansa e200 series offers no AC adapter in the base package. Reviewers indicate that some of the buttons surrounding the unit’s scrollwheel are not all that tactile friendly. Other issues include the loading of photos and video - you must go through a conversion using the accompanying bundled software to do so. Moreover, recordings are made only in WAV formats. In addition, the scrollwheel is considered a tad below the performance of the iPod equivalent. The unit also produces some system noise that can be heard through the headphones at low volume. Overall, the SanDisk Sansa e200 series offers superb features, decent sound quality and processing performance, all for a reasonable price. Offering an FM tuner and recording possibilities for both the radio and voice options and you have a step up over the iPod. Throw in an excellent battery life, the unit’s compact size, its skip-free MP3/WMA player capabilities and you have the perfect alternative to the iPod market.
