One of the worst items I have used.

multisrvcs, Ebay
6 November 2006
  • Summary: It seems this item is full of problems. Even on the manufacturer's website they address major issues with the harddrive in this unit. There also seems to be a problem with the batteries. I wouldn't recommend this item.

This is a $200+ Throw Away Item

bigbendgene, Ebay
22 December 2005
  • Summary: I bought the HDD 100 a while back and fell in love with it. The styling is great and the analog and voice input capability were amazing. The processor speed is very slow and the PC interface is cumbersome at best. The device locks up frequently and can only be restarted by letting the battery discharge. By far the worst thing is the fact that the battery is factory installed and can only be replaced by Philips at a cost of $143.73!

pretty good mp3 player - I prefer the ipod though

21 July 2011
  • Excerpt: Before it was necessary to have an ipod in order to not be an outcast in today's society, I had this little number, and it wasn't a bad MP3 player either. It allows 20 gigabytes of songs like most ipods do now which is quite a lot. It has a sleek black and silver design is very attractive. The screen is also in black and white but ina way that gives it quite a nice retro look.

An average Mp3 player

  • Excerpt: "I feel that this MP3 player is good but I am sure there are some that are better. If someone thinks that the problems I have identified are minor then I would defiently recommend this device to them, but for me I think I would chose another device over this one. On the plus side the user interface is so easy to navigate any one could use it. The first screen allows you to show your music by a variety of ways, including album, genre and artist etc. ...
  • Pros: Very user friendly
  • Cons: Software Provided, prone to freezing

Philips HDD120 MP3 player

ceedam, Ciao
25 February 2006
  • Excerpt: "This is a very nice unit. There is probably too much space on it and i can't help but wonder; if they'd cut it down to 6gig or 8gig they could have made the unit slightly smaller. the menu's are very easy to use and i found that i wanted to change a setting i didn't need to refer to the manual; very simple to use. Also, it looks the part. very fancy screen which sort of dissapears when it's off. only real bad points are that the casing is very ...
  • Pros: masses of space, you'll never need another mp3 player again
  • Cons: but you'll have to buy one cause this one'll scratch so quickly

Phillips HDD120 - How to make it work fast

DS_ROBB, Ciao
6 February 2006
  • Excerpt: "I have owned my Phillips HDD for 2 years and on the whole have been very pleased with it. The one major annoyance has always been the slow transfer speed via the DMM software. I have read several instances of the same issue and also people stating the player freezes. Both these things happened to mine and even the reset (up arrow whilst holding the volume +) did nothing to resolve. I was also mightly fed up that transferring 500 MP3 songs was ...

  • Excerpt: "...the track playing screen. ------Usability factors------ The Philips HDD 120, I think, is very simple to use. The start up screen is pretty much self-explanatory, which is just as well because the instruction manual which comes with the product is not very well layed out. There are options to go to lists of playlists - easily set up by using the menu button - artists, tracks, albums and recordings made using the micro-phone or other periphernalia ...
  • Pros: Easy - to - use aesthetically pleasing mass storage device .
  • Cons: So much room that you start to forget which albums you have on it .

Nice to look at but....

eguzki, Ciao
26 September 2005
  • Excerpt: "I got this at a good price, it looks very nice, and it has a huge memory. And once you get the hang of it, it is dead easy to use. But... you have to get there first. The instruction book is absolutely useless, and I don't mind reading it. Even now I know what I am doing, it still doesn't help. If you are not familiar with this technology (like me), get someone who is, otherwise you will spend several frustrating hours trying to fathom it. Which is ...

22 September 2005
  • Excerpt: "...needed to install updates from philips which i could not find. my friend was baffled by it as well and he work in IT so technology is no stranger to him and I am a BSC multimedia student. This mp3 player would get a top rating from me had the instructions had been some use. This was my first mp3 player and it put me off them for life very complicated for first time users Apples Ipod i rate higher, which is what I have now and its slimmer, may only ...
  • Pros: Large storage space, classy, recognised brand
