Summary: I bought this unit mainly for its voice recorder feature, very handy if I want to record myself dyuring music class. As other reviewers have already confirmed, the sound quality on playback is very good, and given that it it it has a mono built-in microphone, recorded sounds also sound good. Also useful at the expense of greater thickness, is its use of AAA batteries. The bad is the user interface.
Summary: The sound is good, the transfer of files to and from the laptop are easy enough. My problems: * There are only a few buttons to do many things. What the button does depends on how many times you click it (sort of like double-clicking a mouse), and which menu, and what stage of that menu, you're in. Only, the buttons don't always seem to work as they should.
Summary: A year or so ago I was given an I-River mp3 player by my then girlfriend/now wife as a gift and was thrilled by the sound quality and size/weight, not to mention the fact that by buying I-River I wasn't supporting the all-consuming i-pod hysteria that seemed to be taking over the world. The honeymoon thereafter was wonderful, and lasted up until about 2 months ago, when inexplicably the I-River went into full crash mode, allowing me only the insignia, and nothing else.
Summary: I agree completely with the person below. I got this MP3 player for Christmas, and I cannot download any songs onto it, because I don't have a Windows XP. I think it's actually a pathetic way to earn money. To get Windows XP software, it would be an extra $100. There is no way around this obstacle. However, I did burn a few songs off of a CD at a friends house, and the 2 songs I have play well. The quality is really good.
Summary: I bought this as a Christmas present. Be careful, it absolutely will NOT work with Windows 2000, or ME. No patches or fixes available. Any company that omits half of the operating sytems in the country from using their product must not hire the best nor brightest.
Summary: As a device to hold downloaded music this device is fine. The sound quality is excellent, the battery life is long, and its physically tiny and weighs nothing. It comes with good quality ear bugs with a nice long cord. As long as you have some kind of pocket on your body you don't need a strap or case. I choose this device because it has line-in and voice recording to mp3 format files.
