This basic music player is a lightweight MP3 device with good quality sound and fair voice recording capabilities. It works well with subscription music services, although sometimes there is a small glitch in the playback of those downloads. In addition to playing back music and voice recordings, the iRive T30 also stores data, and comes in a 512MB and 1GB version. Although the storage capacity isn’t great, it’s enough for a walk, trip to the gym, or a day between classes. Although this model is not noted for its beauty and doesn’t have the joystick-like controls of other iRiver products, it’s functional and reliable.
The iRiver T30 supports many different formats, from MP3 to WMA files and many more. You also have the capability of recording voice, but there is no FM radio, which is one of the drawbacks of this model. This unit also has an equalizer and you can also control the speed of playback. In order to get the most out of the audio quality, though, you will need a good set of head phones, even though the ones included with the device are fairly good. Still, the main reason for choosing the T30 would be the support of subscription download music and various formats.
The battery life is fairly good as well, with about 20 hours of play per charge. However, iRiver could improve the T30 by making comfortable, high quality head phones to go with the device, and make the interface a little less geeky. It might be nice to add an FM radio to this player as well, and the price could stand to come down a little. In the end, if you are looking for a small, lightweight player, the iRiver is a good choice considering the subscription music support (if you don’t care if you have an FM tuner or not).

Just bought the T30. Don't get discouraged by the immediate difficulty of learning the controls and options. Don't use Windows Media Player. Using Windows Explorer drop folders of music CDs into the "data" folder, then using the Browser option on the T30 you can select different folders of music. It is not easy to figure the T30 controls out, but once you do it is a great little MP3 player. Read more
