Summary: I've owned an iRiver ifp series player for over a year. I've been pleased in general with their operation except for the issue that when the unit breaks (which yours may or may not) iRiver has no facilities to repair a unit beyond its warranty period. On the plus side: + Small size + Long battery life with single AA battery.
Summary: I got this MP3 at a Black Friday sale and I was absolutly thrilled with it...until the end broke off. The end where the battery was broke off one day and wouldn't stay on. I now have to hold it in place with rubber bands. Now, the player will constantly shut off whenever it moves the slightest bit. The radio, however(before it broke)was great, the organization of the files was good and the mic worked okay if you talked straight into it.
Summary: I bought this product one month ago and it used to be good. HOWEVER, the problem happpend exactly one month after the purchase. The FM tuner, for some unkown reason, didn't work suddenly. No radio, no signal but just noise. (The other part seemed fine.) I tried to contact iRiver Customer Service Dept for a warranty service. No email replied ever to my internet request. Their 800 customer service line seemed busy forever.
Summary: In contrast to many reviewers, I actually like the UI. iRiver has also done a good job of adding new features to the latest firmwares -- there is a "language learn" feature, you can add lyrics to the music (you need to type them in and align them to the music yourself), and a slew of other neat features. The problem is that iRiver seems to care more about pleasing the record companies than its customers.
Summary: Bad: - Too fragile. I dropped it a few times and the joystick just stopped working, making the player unusable. Lots of people have complained about this player's resilience. It doesn't last more than 1 or 2 years, sometimes much less. - Mysterious user interface. 16 effective buttons (3 on top, up, down, left, right, center, each with tap and hold-down varieties) working differently in each of 5 modes (mp3, radio, recording, menu, file list).
Summary: Confusing, flimsy controls. Depending on the size of the CD's, it may not even be able to handle two CDs worth of music. Three full-sized CDs are out of the question. I have needed to uninstall and reinstall the PC software twice. I don't use MP3 players much. In fact, I have spent more time trying to get it to work than I have spent using it. I am on the verge of throwing it away as more trouble than it is worth for me. Sound is reasonably good though.
