Summary: The Hifiman 901 is probably the best sounding portable player. A bit clunky and retro looking, yes, but a well-built and neat package that looks and feels like you would expect at this price. Musically this is a superior product. To my ears it is more dynamic and involving than the much more expensive AK240. However, its firmware is buggy. Freezes a lot. I mean a lot, like 2-3 times a day sometimes. The iBasso DX 90 plays much better for less than half the price.
Summary: ONE VERY IMPORTANT PROVISO: No doubt that everyone is raving about the HM-901 and with good cause... HOWEVER,I received mine in January and waited until now to write this review because I'd read and heard of firmware-related problems dramatically impacting the HM-901's performance. As it turns out, this proved quite true in my case. After four months of intensive use, whereupon I added and deleted numerous MP3,FLAC and APE files, the player simply ceased to work.
Summary: Yes, is the first word that came to mind when I started listen to music on this device. If you do the research you will know exactly what the 901 brings to the table when it comes to portable music players. Apple's customer service is the best when it comes to your average consumer, but I got tired of my headphone jacks on my ipods and iphones going out on me (one earphone would play and the other would not).
Summary: Hi-Fi on the go. This sounds so great I could hardly believe it. I upgraded to the balanced AMP card for use with my Momentum, HD-650 and Songbirds all balanced. Very pleased and if you are into portable Hi-Fi you will not regret this system. You do not need a separate amp with this product.
Look no further, this truly is the best music device out there!

Summary: Top of the line Mp3 player. Truly for people who want an out of this world Mp3 player. It plays true HD audio. Only issue is the high resloution files are not cheap. But they are worth it. The sound coming out of this machine is the best Ive ever heard. It does not have the bells and whistles of an iPod. It just plays great sounding music. Ive tried Astell and Kern-Its nothing compared to this unit. While the price is outlandish it really is worth it. Go buy one!
Like listening to a hi-end home stereo system! Even better.

Summary: Two weeks ago I received my HM 901. It came with the standard amp. I ordered the balanced amp from Hifiman about a week ago. Since then I have been doing a comparison between the standard (stock) amp and the balanced amp. I have also been switching back and forth between the hi -res and the classic switch. The headphones I'm using are the Shure 1840, Grado 500, Sennheiser HD600 and my Sennheiser HD650.
