What can I say, I bought it for the sound quality and for that I'm a happy

Summary: The musical experience is quite amazing actually so 3 stars as my overall rating is misleading. You've already read many reviews surely - an OS reminiscent of old school 1993 nokias, craftmanship, minimal feature set. BUT GEES, when you come across a good recording, you soon forget. Some patient tweaking on the EQ is required, but when you get it right...THE SOUND! HiFiman IS hi-fidelity no doubt.
Summary: I thought the sound quality would far exceed that of the iPod Touch based on other reviews. It sounded the same to me, so I returned it and to Amazon's credit my money was credited back to my account less than a week after putting it in the mail.
Summary: Like others have said the interface is basic, the case is basic, and it's about the size of the original ipod. But unlike the original ipod, it's made of weak stuff. I've been carrying my ipods in a certain pocket of my laptop bag for as long as there have been ipods. Today I put the 601 in that pocket and headed to the airport. When I pulled it out after going through security the glass screen was broken.
Summary: This review isn't about the HM-601 sound quality. The other techies here have provided lots of info in that regard. I bought mine from the Head-Direct booth at a recent trade show. I thought I would avoid some drama by skipping mail order/Paypal to China. My issues with the 601 are with everything but the sound quality. It is a very temperamental product. My unit won't power on unless it is plugged into the wall.
