The Q5W features a 5-inch touch screen TFT LCD that supports 16,700,000 colors. It has a native resolution of 800 x 480 (WVGA), a contrast ratio of 500:1, and a brightness range of 200cd/m2.
The player comes with a built-in 1.8” HDD with capacity of 60 gigabyte and 12 megabytes of DDR2 SDRAM.
The Cowon Q5W supports playback of APE, WMA, FLAC, ASF, AC-3, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, MPEG 1 Audio, MPEG 2.5 Audio, MPEG 2 Audio, MPC and MP3 audio files. It outputs audio through built-in stereo speakers that have a signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of 95 dBA. The player also has a built-in microphone for digital voice recording.
For videos, the Q5W supports XviD, MPEG-1, MPEG-4, MPEG-2, ASF, AVI, OGM (Ogg Media), WMV, DivX formats. It also features support for subtitles.
For displaying still images, the player supports JPEG, BMP, PNG, and RAW.
Apart from the player’s Hi-Speed USB, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g, and Bluetooth connections, it features an AV output, and a 3.5 mm Mini-phone stereo headphone jack.
The Cowon Q5W is equipped with a built-in 6500mAh-capacity lithium polymer battery that takes about 5.5 hours to charge. When fully charged, the rechargeable battery can last up to 7 hours of continuous video playback or 13 hours of audio playback.

Hardware-wise, it's big and heavy, and the touchscreen really requires the stylus to be effective. Software-wise, this thing is kind of a nightmare, but we'd be willing to forgive Cowon if they'd update the firmware with a redesigned interface minus the seemingly redundant settings menus. With a Windows CE OS, an AMD 600MHz processor, and Wi-Fi web browsing, Cowon's newest media player seems more like an Ultra Mobile PC than a PMP. And like the poorly received UMPC, the Q5W doesn't quite deliver on its abundance of promised functionality. This is now my third cowon unit see my other review for The Cowon A3 review. I have owned this unit for now a little over 90 days. Pros Like everyone says beautiful picture can even read subtitles, very good sound and lots of storage. Remote control very nice when hooked up to my entertainment system.
