Best little PMP

Kevin O., Newegg
22 November 2011
  • Summary: Purchased from New Egg in Sept of 2006; it was love at first sight and all these years later, which have seen ipods and android tablets, it is still my favorite PMP. If Cowon were to re-release this device with wifi, Android & a touch screen, while still retaining all of the originals capabilities,...
  • Pros: Since the A2 is no longer made you may be looking at this review because you see one second hand and are wondering if it is any good... BUY IT. It has an amazing screen, amazing battery life, amazing sound, amazing recording ability. You can record audio & video, from external sources, and the bu...
  • Cons: Some folks had issues with using the toggle switch as a control; but I never did. <sigh> it doesn't last forever

Great Player, does pretty much everything

Daniel F., Newegg
23 October 2007
  • Summary: Player can become a little warm during movie playback, but it's not too hot. Latest firmware update 1.91 lots of little annoying bugs. Can be downloaded from http://www.cowonglobal.com
  • Pros: Plays back every file I have perfectly. Expansive set of options for every category. Easy viewing of pictures, movies, and text. Excellent battery life. Auto downmuxes 5.1 sound to 2 flawlessly.
  • Cons: No H.264 support (not that I was expecting it), system can become a little slow to react during movies (not surprising considering the amount of processing taking place for the movie), A/V out doesn't use whole screen.

good buy

Kyle L., Newegg
5 October 2007
  • Summary: choose not to wait for A3 (its expected to have shorter battery life). To me one of the biggest sellers is that it doesn't tie you down with any software or copyright garbage (I use winamp to manage it).
  • Pros: Sound quality, Battery life, works as portable HD (no software/install needed), multiple features, 4" screen, plays .Xvid & .DivX & .avi. nice built in mic and line in recording, recent price drop.
  • Cons: not all mp4 videos types work, you'll have to convert them, battery drains while hooked up to computer, everyone asks you if its a iphone, interface and joystick is . . . okay

Solid Media Player

Joe T., Newegg
27 September 2007
  • Summary: Overall this is worth the money. The screen is huge, movies look great, has plenty of disk space to hold a good chunk of music and a couple movies. Also holds pictures, although I've never used it for that...can also use your own background pic if you'd like, although again I haven't tried.
  • Pros: Overall this is a great PMP. The audio quality is very nice (for a media player), the interface is easy to navigate, and the controls are great (see below as well). Radio gets great reception, and the battery life is as stated...in fact, I have run it for 16 hours with no problems (music only, LC...
  • Cons: The joysticks is VERY hard to get used to...but once you do, it's a breeze. It took me a good week before I had it down. Also, every once in a while the player will lock up on me. Probably happens 1 or 2 times a month, and I use it 8 hours a day, 6 days a week. Also occasionally get a NASTY "scra...

Great Product

Matthew L., Newegg
5 September 2007
  • Summary: Overall this is an amazing product. You can record radio, TV, audio-in, or off the built-in microphone. You can play back anything onto TV or receivers. The battery life puts this product into a category alone. It easily beats any fruit products and edges out the comparable competition.
  • Pros: This product has a great viewing screen, excellent media compatibility, plug and play, flash drive alternative, and one heck of a battery life.
  • Cons: There are two cons. If your paying for the large viewing screen your obviously getting a "large" player relatively speaking. The other issue I have is that when I turn it off from playing media, I have to switch to hold, press power, and then switch off hold to turn it on again. Also the battery ...

WOW! What a PMP

James M., Newegg
28 August 2007
  • Summary: If you're not going for the upcoming Cowon Q5, then this is the one to have.
  • Pros: Plays a ton of formats, crisp, clear LCD screen, very good battery life. Just a very solid, well built, do it all PMP.
  • Cons: It's a bit long in the tooth at this point, about to be superseded by newer products. Somewhat low storage capacity by today's PMP standards.

WOW

Anonymous, Newegg
28 August 2007
  • Summary: The firmware upgrade was painless and quick. The battery lasts ages when listening to music. Bundled jetAudio software could be better, but jetAudio 7 from the website is great. Joystick has tendancy to go up or down when trying to click if you aren't used to it.
  • Pros: Where to begin, where to begin... I am astounded by this product in every way. I fired it up and it worked perfectly the first time. I plugged it into my USB port and I transferred my entire multi-gigabyte music library to it in a matter of 10 minutes. The screen quality is astounding, and the au...
  • Cons: Couple of minor technical glitches. One time the software didn't recognize it, but I unplugged and replugged it back in and it fixed it. Another time the screen was shifted down with lines at the top, but restarting the player fixed both of these. These have happened once each, and I've used it m...

Dump your other players

John P., Newegg
27 July 2007
  • Summary: This thing is amazing, and it's easy to use. The instruction manual is short for a reason; once you know what the controls do, you're off and running. Shipping from Newegg was lightning fast!
  • Pros: Supports tons of formats, easy to navigate via PC, laptop simply recognizes it as an external drive, outstanding sound and picture quality, large screen, great GUI.
  • Cons: HD space could be larger, joggle takes some getting used to.
