Summary: I don't want to write a long review since there are already tons detailed reviews explaining the problems with this device. It has some pros but mostly cons. I've had this for 2 years now and I never really use it because it just plain sucks. The screen is large and has good picture quality, but it is very unresponsive to touch. I suggest getting a stylus for it.
Summary: The first few months I had my Archos i loved it, i thought it was the most useful tool i could have, but having it for a few years has made me realize that it's not quite as useful as i'd originally thought. This Archos tablet comes with a dated version of android, even when it was new, and the 500GB hdd equipped can make your tablet noticeably slow, and may even make noises and rumble at times.
Summary: I purchased this product not knowing much about Archos. I had the Archos 5 for about 16 months before I had any problems with it. Most would think that's a fair amount of time for a unit like this, others would disagree. I'm the latter here. I used the unit three times a week for less than three hours each usage. I purchased the 32gb unit so I could put my entire music collection on it. Well I need more storage, about double.
Summary: I bought this item to be a replacement for my iPod classic- nothing more than a hard drive with a headphone jack and a media player. All the other things that it could do were icing on top. When I got the device, it first made me do multiple software upgrades. This took about three hours and I still wasn't able to view the full android market. I'm going to put this in bold shouty capitals: YOU CAN'T USE THIS LIKE YOUR ANDROID CELL PHONE! why?
Summary: UPDATED Oct. 2012 - No longer worth the retail price of $150 for new. Only worth it if you can pick one up at HUGE discount (say around $70) but even at that the unit can't hold up even to a used I touch or Samsung Galaxy player. The biggest drawback is the slow processor, less responsive screen, and outdated Android. The biggest plus is the nice big screen and large memory.
Summary: I purchased this tablet in June '11. Less than a month later Adobe Flash player does not recognize the OS (1.6) on this tablet so it will not install. Now youtube, ESPN.com and many other web pages do not show flash content on this tablet. So if you are buying this "Web Tablet" to view "Web Pages", don't. It is a nice MP3 player and the GPS is slow but accurate. Archos has no idea when or if an OS update is coming for this tablet.
Summary: looks good but no android, poor wifi range, poor sound quality, poor flash too old, all vids require long long conversions or wont work, uses windows media player which sucks, 10gb of memory autosaved for programs you have to pay a LOT extra for, external speakers very poor
After 10 months of rarely using it, it won't turn on
12 September 2011
Summary: I have had one since Dec 2010. I rarely use this device too. The clock keeps screwing up or something because it's never stable when it goes to sleep. One day i tried charging it to it's fullest and tried powering it on, but it wouldn't turn on. Soooo i guess i will stick with an itouch for now.
Summary: I ordered this a few weeks ago and have been playing with it. It works fine for a mp3 player, but the android operating system on it sucks. It can't access the app library for android, it won't download anything. Archos and android are a long way behind Appple. No wonder the Ipad and Ipod dominate the market.
