Question: how long does archos 5 take to charge out of the box first time?

  • Re: how long does archos 5 take to charge out of the box first time?

@david684.....Totally correct; the dang fools that wrote the manual for this gem were real dullards when it came time to seize your first attention. You need to know you have to TURN IT ON before it will charge! THEN you get a second green light, which they don't tell you in the manual or the "how-to" videos! Amazing and extremely poor customer service right out of the box! So...after 12 hours of one steady green light I became concerned enough to google the problem, found this forum, and am passing on my hard lesson! Typically one doesn't turn a unit on until the charging is complete. So I set it up and tried to register, connected it to my local WiFi, but then it closed down on me....so I turned it back on, allowed an update to download and install, then when it asked to enable USB or charge-only, I said "charge-only" so that it will charge up fully and THEN I'll figure out how it works, read the PDF, etc. Good luck!

hello..out of the box i plugged mine in right away. the cable says 8 hours first time. well, there's a slight problem..
By the manual, it says the blinking green light flashes when fully charged. Fine, but without turning the unit on first, you won't get the two green lights, only one.

After 12 hrs charging, I turned it on, when I was done with the unit.. running the battery to dead/1 red bar, I realized it needs to be turned off, plugged in, then told to be in charging mode or H/D mode. Then both green lights come on, and the one blinks on n off when fully charged.
The techies say its like a cellphone, fully charge/fully dump, then charge as needed, rather than fully charged and left charging all the time, to extend the battery life. Full charging all the time they gave the unit 6 months to go bad!
