Horrible interface; excellent value for the money

  • Summary: The good: Battery life: Using Rockbox, I'm getting well over the 10 hours/charge advertised when I hook the unit up via the USB port and use Media Player to play music from it as if it were just a USB hard drive. Docs say it's powered by AA rechargeables. That may be true, but you need an Alan wrench to change them. Sound quality: Again, with Rockbox. Decent to very good. Included headphones are useless, though. Capacity: 20G.

  • Summary: The bad - poor quality control and build quality (especially solder joints) on most Archos units, the included software is inefficient and ackward, poor tech support from manufacturer The good - you won't even get close to 20 GB for this price with any other unit, huge active user support base out there (check out Archos_devices, archos, archosjukebox6000 at Yahoo Groups), great freeware OS (Rockbox), easily replacable NiMH AA batteries In summary...

Fantastic value for the money

  • Summary: I've been using this about three weeks now. Biggest complaints: Slow startup time. Slow to switch songs (FF/RW). Biggest likes: I replaced the built-in Archos software with Rockbox (rockbox.haxx.se). Rockbox is an open source OS for Archos jukeboxes. It is SOOO much better and VERY easy to install. It has 6 million more settings for everything and is MUCH faster when browsing or loading a playlist.
