Apple iPod Touch second generation

CNET
5 September 2014
  • Summary: The second-generation iPod Touch includes features that are light-years ahead of the competition, its design has improved, and its price has finally come down to earth.
  • Pros: The second-generation Apple iPod Touch has it all: music, videos, photos, podcasts, e-mail, Web browsing, Internet radio, games, Nike+, Wi-Fi music downloads, and an App Store for adding thousands of custom features.
  • Cons: The second-generation iPod Touch may be overwhelming to users looking for a simple music player; audio quality is average; and iTunes software is required.

  • Excerpt: As both devices cater and target different markets. I cannot directly compare them to each other. I would merely cite references and features of each device and my opinion on them.

Apple iPod touch (2nd generation)

PC Magazine
26 March 2009
  • Conclusion: Aside from a new white version, the best-in-class iPod touch remains physically the same, but gets new features, like iMessage, via the iOS 5 update.
  • Pros: iMessage allows for virtual texting between iOS devices over Wi-Fi. iCloud syncs content between devices wirelessly. Still a top-notch music player. Retina display makes text and images look incredibly sharp. Shoots HD video, takes photos. FaceTime video chat is solid. GameCenter allows social gaming with other iOS devices.
  • Cons: Quite expensive. Lousy earbuds. Low-res camera.

Apple iPod touch (2nd Generation) 16GB Review

BigPictureBigSound
12 November 2008
  • Conclusion: This is hands-down the best iPod to watch movies on, for its big, wide screen, fluid controls and even the built-in speaker, when we want to share or just don't feel like wearing headphones. The original iPod touch was pretty revolutionary, and pretty fabulous, so Apple did not re-invent the wheel with this second generation, but they did manage to improve it just enough to make current owners think about an upgrade, or the hesitant finally jump in.
  • Pros: Does everything, entertainment-wise, now including games, Love the screen, love the internal speaker, love the user interface
  • Cons: Occasional software hiccups, No way around it: Unless we're wearing gloves, it's going to get smudged

Apple iPod touch (2nd generation) review

Techworld
28 October 2008
  • Summary: Apple has begun to reinvent the iPod touch as the ‘funnest’ vehicle for playing games, websurfing and email when in Wi-Fi range, and even as a keep-fit companion with its Nike+ jogging monitor. But in spite of its shortfall in making phone calls, we liked the iPod touch for its irrepressible ability to play good music.

Apple iPod Touch 2G 16GB Review

Digitaltrends
21 October 2008
  • Conclusion: Apple’s refinements to the iPod Touch make it one of the slickest, most impressive media players on the market today. At $229 for even the smallest 8GB version, you’re still paying a pretty premium for Apple’s name and trademark engineering, but it shines through in the user experience and overall build quality.
  • Pros: Outstanding build quality; untuitive interface; superb audio and video playback; lots of extras
  • Cons: Expensive; Wi-Fi reception could be better; missing an equalizer

iPod touch 2G

AskMen.com
8 October 2008
  • Summary: Now in its second generation, the iPod touch from Apple is seeing a reduced price, improved hardware and a major influx of new features. The iPod touch was lost in the shadow of the iPhone in the past year, but hopefully this ingenious gadget will now get some well-deserved attention. The device really is so far and away ahead of any other competition, and Apple fanboys will be quick to point out that the iPod touch carries on the company’s reputation for great control.
