Apple iPod Shuffle

PC Magazine
3 February 2009
  • Conclusion: Probably the best flash player without a display, the iPod shuffle has excellent audio performance, a low price, a near-weightless design, and interesting random-load/random-play features.
  • Pros: Very light weight. Top-notch audio performance. Recharges from USB. Can automatically update itself with fresh songs.
  • Cons: No navigation display, preferences, or settings. A little too minimal for music explorers. Loud enough to cause hearing damage if you're not careful.

Is the iPod Shuffle too cute to be practical?

CNET
10 January 2013
  • Summary: The Apple iPod Shuffle is an adorable way to take your favorite songs on the go, but sometimes it's too small for its own good.
  • Pros: The iPod Shuffle includes a sturdy built-in clip; support for playlists, audiobooks, podcasts, Genius Mixes; and a multilingual VoiceOver feature that announces track information, battery status, and menu navigation.
  • Cons: The 2GB capacity can't hold much; there's no headphone remote nor radio; the track controls tend to get pinched when clipping the iPod to your clothes; and the chances of you accidentally running it through the washing machine are quite high.

Expert Review

PC Advisor
3 December 2008
  • Excerpt: Updated 20 February 2008, with new pricing: Apple's first iPod shuffle was the smallest digital-music player on the market when released in January 2006. Version 2 makes that old model look positively cumbersome, weighing in at just 15g (half an ounce) and taking up about as much space as a CompactFlash card or tiny book of matches. It really is teeny (41x27x10.5mm). And now that iPod shuffle pricing has been slashed by Apple , it's an even better deal than before.

  • Excerpt: Apple 's third-generation iPod shuffle will please minimalist-design enthusiasts. Smaller than a USB thumb drive, it is completely devoid of buttons, knobs, and a screen. While it is attractive, the shuffle's earbud controls and VoiceOver feature might not be for everyone.
