Summary: Ended up with 2 of these, bought them for the kids rooms and they worked nonstop until I upgraded them to a network version of the WDTV. They never turned them off and they kept going. I ended up selling them to coworkers after I now longer had a need for them and they are still working! Great device!
Summary: In addition to all said, I just got it working in my Acura MDX 2008 with entertainment system. It doesn't have an integrated interface as DVD does, but I now can play avi. movies from my WD Passport HDrive. By the way, I've had this for couple of years now and overall I'm pretty happy with it. and yes, I also have higher end WD media players as well, but this tiny little thing always finds its purpose (e.g. vacation with a kiddo).
Summary: This product is just as it is described it worked flawlessly out of the box setup was a snap . Keep in mind this isn`t for my own use i have a little niece and dvd`s don`t last verylong this is clean and small sje`s not likely to notice it behind her tv
Summary: I saw this when a soldier brought it in. Simply plug an external USB hard disk into it, connect it to your TV and watch the movies from your drive. There is a menu structure from the remote control to select the film you want. Works like having a movie server in your house. I am impressed.
Summary: I have converted my favorite DVDs to avi or iso files and put them on my 1TB portable hard drive, so instead of having to go search thru hundreds of actual DVDs I simply connected the portable hard drive to this device, hooked it to my big screen and with its remote I just pick the movie I want and press play, I sorted the movies by genre and it just looks like a file system on your computer, and to think I was going to build a high dollar media computer to do what this...
Burning movies or TV shows on discs? Save that drama. I got my WD TV Mini!

Summary: I'm really loving my WD TV mini! No more waiting for my files to get encoded then burnt to a DVD. Now i can just drag my files to my external hard drive or my flash drive, then i plug it into my WD TV Media Player, and now i'm watching my movies and TV shows on my flat screen! It's so easy to use, my 10 year old daughter has been working that remote it came with since the day it came to my door.
Summary: This is a great gadget. Now, I don't need to go through the hassle of hooking up my laptop to my tv to watch movies. I just simply transfer the avi file from my laptop to a usb memory stick, plug it in to this little device, and HD quality movies....voila! There is no setup required..just plug & play! I have only tried to play avi and divx files. The avi played fine, but not the divx. I will need to do research on how to get the divx file working...
