The Western Digital WD TV Live is a media player that supports AVI (Xvid, AVC, MPEG1/2/4), MPG/MPEG, VOB, MKV (h.264, x.264, AVC, MPEG1/2/4, VC-1), TS/TP/M2T (MPEG1/2/4, AVC, VC-1), MP4/MOV (MPEG4, h.264), M2TS and WMV9 video format; and JPEG, GIF, TIF/TIFF, BMP and PNG image format. It also supports MP3, WAV/PCM/LPCM, WMA, AAC, FLAC, MKA, AIF/AIFF, OGG, Dolby Digital and DTS music format. The unit allows users to create playlists such as PLS, M3U, and WPL and subtitle format such as SRT, ASS, SSA, SUB and SMI. The media player however, does not support protected premium content such as movies or music from the iTunes® Store, Cinema Now, Movielink®, Amazon Unbox™, and Vongo®. It features an Ethernet, HDMI, Composite A/V and USB 2.0 interface on its 1.57 x 3.94 x 4.94 inch 0.67 lbs form factor and requires a 100-240 VAC / 50-60 Hz power supply to operate.

The Western Digital WD TV Live is a media player that supports Full-HD video playback and navigation up to 1080p. The WD TV Live supports a wide variety of the most popular file formats, eliminating the need to transcode files for viewing.Users can also play videos, music and photos from the Internet on a big screen TV, explore and watch YouTube videos and Flickr pictures plus listen to radio stations via Live365 and Pandora radio. Files can be access anywhere on home network via an Ethernet port. It is also compatible with WiFi adapters (sold separately). The two USB ports on the player let users connect multiple USB storage devices and access them simultaneously, and the media library feature collects the content on all the drives into one list sorted by media type. The media player also supports advance navigation function such as thumbnail and list views that lets users browse content by filename or by thumbnails of photos, album covers and movie cover art; and features a Media library that lets users view all media by media type in one menu regardless of its location in folders or drives (content can be viewed by categories such as genre, album, artist and date); Search function that lets users search by genre, title, artist, filename or partial filename; Photo viewing function that lets users create custom slide shows with a variety of transitions and background music, zoom and pan, and search by filename, partial filename, most recently viewed and date; movie viewing and music playback. The Western Digital WD TV Live also supports HDMI 1.3, composite video and component video output. The HDMI port lets users connect to the highest quality HDTV or home theater. Additional composite (RCA), and component outputs ensure compatibility with virtually all television sets. It also has an SPDIF digital output that sends digital signals to an AV receiver for surround sound experience.
