Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player

PC Magazine
6 October 2012
  • Conclusion: What the WD TV HD Media Player does do—play content off of a USB drive—it does well, but that doesn't necessarily mean this is a useful or desirable device.
  • Pros: Affordable. Excellent file support—including for HD video and lossless audio codecs. Simple, intuitive user interface. Includes file-conversion software.
  • Cons: No wireless streaming. Doesn't include a USB drive. Unremarkable physical design.

WD TV HD Review

Anything but iPod
25 November 2009
  • Conclusion: Out of the box, the WD TV HD is an annoyingly slow but still functional media player that will play close to all common formats with the exception of DTS audio decoding. The low price makes it an excellent device for people who simply want to get some media onto their TV, and the device is also being marketed as a USB port for your TV- which is a fair statement.

Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player Review

Futurelooks
8 July 2009
  • Excerpt: As much as I like my trusty little laptop, I’d much prefer to watch my HD movies on my HDTV. That much makes sense, but when you get the majority of your digital content through the Internet on your computer, what’s the easiest way to send that content over to the home theatre in your living room?

Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player

HDTV Magazine
15 April 2009
  • Summary: Ara was fully anticipating selling the player after he was done with the review. However, due to its tiny size and ease of transport, he now sees it as a great device for travel. And yes, Western Digital got it right by making it a perfect complement to the "My Passport" line of hard drives.

Expert Review

Techware Labs
31 January 2009
  • Excerpt: The Western Digital TV HD Media Player (WDTV) is the device everyone has been raving about. I first  heard of the WDTV  from a friend who got me pretty excited about its possibilities. When I got my hands on it, I’ll admit I was a little skeptical based on first looks. My first thoughts were how could such a small device ( About the same size as a Western Digital My book) lacking most of the normal internal components that are normally found on media centers as well as...

WD TV HD Media Player

AskMen.com
3 December 2008
  • Summary: The company formerly known as Western Digital enters the set-top box game with a cool gadget aimed at people with a lot of downloaded content. Slingbox it ain’t, nor is it a real competitor for the Apple TV box. In fact, it doesn’t even have built-in storage. What this player lacks in TV connectivity or download capability, however, it makes up for in unadulterated simplicity.

WD TV Live Hub review: A nifty little Western Digital network media streamer with a built-in 1TB hard drive

Good Gear Guide.au
31 October 2009
  • Summary: The WD TV Live Hub media streamer is a good unit overall, and very versatile. You can stream content to it from your computers, or you can store content on its internal hard drive and stream that to other devices. It works on both old TVs and new ones and it supports a huge range of file formats. It also lets you use some Web services (such as Facebook and Flickr) on your TV, but the apps for these services could use some refining.
  • Pros: Built-in 1TB drive, analog and digital video outputs, small footprint, clean and easy to use interface, good file format support
  • Cons: Remote control could be better, online features need refining

Western Digital WD TV HD

27 September 2012

Review: Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player

29 April 2009
