I love this little black box. It singlehandedly solved my video playback problems and ended months of frustration. People will gripe about the lack of network support, but I personally have no desire to stream high definition video over my local network. Direct hard drive or thumb drive connections ensure fast and reliable playback and controls. Simple and fast, the WD HD TV Media Player is a powerhouse solution in a tiny and affordable package. This is the first media player I bought. It had issues right out of the box. It would play videos but there was no sound. Turns out it didn't like the audio codec. Converted the audio codec and then it worked ok (more work than it needed to be). The playback is good but video navigation is clunky at best. Fast forward works ok but it is not real time and it's hard to find the exact spot you want to stop at. Forget about rewinding. It's choppy and unresponsive. Read more
This product will work well for someone in a small apartment where their entertainment center and their computer area are one and the same. It's really not made for wireless communication from the data source. It works well with older TV models (analog and early digital TVs) as far as outputting its data stream. It didn't work well with wireless connections to data sources (aka my MacBook Pro). Read more
I have this unit attached to my Denon 3808, and love the it. I was initially looking at the Tvix unit, but was kinda taken aback at the price. Enter the WD TV. I did a little research on the unit before purchasing, and found it did most of what I was looking for. Setup was easy, the image and sound via HDMI is great. The operation menu's can be a little slow at times, and there may be a file format issue here and there, but it is till in its infancy as far as firmware. Read more
Great product, and great buy, Newegg sell's it at manufacturer recommended price, same as the price I paid for it at Bestbuy. Has USB input port, and for output, RYW (Red, Yellow, White), HDMI, and Optical. Product works flawlessly at browsing seek speed (All depends on the cache size and RPM of external). Does not have to be a Western Digital hard drive, too darken the day on the belief by their ads, you do. FAT and NTSF will work. Read more
