2 of them died on me

Summary: I bought two of these drives over a period of time. The 1st one lasted about 1 year and I thought my Tivo died. But then found out after Tivo replaced my Tivo at a price -- that it was actually the Western Digital My DVR Expander that died.
Only game in town for TiVo, and what a lousy game!

Summary: When I bought this, 14 months before it died, TiVo told me that it was the only box they'd recommend. While it may not be WD's fault that it is so awkward to use, it's quite a pain in the butt. But the worst part is that now, about two months out of warranty, it's become unreliable and error-prone.
Summary: I think others had the same problem as I did. I have a Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD DVR (Time Warner Cable) and although installation was easy and my SA 8300 can read the extra memory...the shows that are recorded on my Western Digital external drive don't play back normally.
Just like everyone else.....18 months and then it crapped out.

Summary: Worked great for 18 months. Then it died. I wish I had read these reviews before I purchased. It currently loads up like it will work....it also works for a couple of hours....then it crashes and you can't watch anything. - Lame. Don't buy this unless you only need if for 18 months or less.
Summary: I, like many others, was attracted to this unit by it's promised simplicity of expansion for my TiVo Series III HD. I bought it a little less than 2 years ago. it worked up until about a month ago when I began to experience pixelation, audio dropouts, and grey screens on certain channels.
Summary: I purchased 2 of these...they were very easy to install on the Time Warner, Scientific Atlanta 8300 cable boxes. One worked but it killed the on screen cable guide. The other one worked but on occasion the recording stopped before the end of the program (eg: record 45 min of a hour program) but...
Easy to install but failed just 1 week after warranty expired
8 August 2009
Summary: This was very easy to install. But just my luck, in exactly 1 year and 1 week, it failed. Just 1 week after my warranty expired. I ran TiVo series 3 HD diagnostics (kickstart 54) to verify that it was the expander and not the TiVo. I lost all of my recordings.
Summary: This is a great idea - if only it had worked. I had trouble with the expander from the outset, but I wasn't able to diagnose that the secondary hard drive was the problem Eventually the hard drive caused the TIVO to stop working altogether and had to be disconnected from the system.
Summary: I bought this in October and by December, I was having trouble with the loosely-connected cables. The TIVO would not recognize that the drive was attached. I would have to unplug and reconnectly constantly until it worked.
Forget It!--5 stars for Amazon's RMA Service, zero for the unit

Summary: I purchased this unit from Amazon, and it was defective out of the box. The symptom is that the TIVO will not boot up with the drive attached (freezes indefinitely on the "Welcome...Powering Up" screen).
