fantastic

Stephen V., Newegg
19 June 2010
  • Summary: This is one excellent device, I managed to hook it up to my Ubuntu server over the wireless N which shares drives over the NFS protocol. I also put in a 1TB drive into it and it acts great sending files to it using its built in FTP server.
  • Pros: NFS support, MKV support, 24/96 FLAC support, Wireless N, IMS support, .iso support, plays everything I threw at it. Excellent device. HDMI does sound through it as well, so you only need one cable. Has an FTP server built into it, can control the player with Android or iPhones as well as the bui...
  • Cons: as far as I can tell with the current firmware you have to broadcast your wireless APs SSID in order for the wireless support to search and find your wireless network. I would have liked to specify a hidden SSID in the menu, however not a deal breaker for me.

Great MP

Cuong D., Newegg

  • Summary: Very happy with this product. Started converting all my DVD's to ISO. Make some of my money back by selling all my DVD's.
  • Pros: I wont restate what others have stated. I was worried about it playing DVD ISO files, but it handled ok. I've only used for 1 week, but this player excedes my expectations. However, I do have a few grips (see cons) hoping they make improvements for future releases.
  • Cons: Hard to find anyone selling the add on module that turns it into a DVR that records HD off the air. Playlist not easy to set up. No option to disable delete capability, though it does ask you to verify. I will ding it a little because the menu has its quarks when switching from the data source to...

Great Sequel to the Already Awesome TVIX M-6500a

Ryan S., Newegg
2 March 2010
  • Summary: > Backwards compatible with previous versions of TVIX NetShare. > The TVIX M-6500a remote works for this version.
  • Pros: Compared to the TVIX M-6500a: > Improved GUI and menu system. > Can change the NFS mount folder names on the server backend, and can access passworded SAMBA shares as well as UPnP. > Faster response when calling up backend NFS mounts. > More streamlined media loading (does not display the filenam...
  • Cons: > The component video output connection has been removed. > Within the menu system there is improper use of the English language, and this is mostly due to odd word-choice. However, this does not limit the functionality of the device as the meaning can be derived quite easily.

User Review

CHRIS B., Newegg
31 December 2009
  • Summary: Bad presumption on my part but while it will play ISO discs it will not play ISO Blu-Ray discs.
  • Pros: Does everything as advertised. I've used it both wireless and wired with good results. Best results come if you transfer the file to the Dvico before playback. I installed a 1.5tb hard drive and it recognized and formatted the drive right away. Works with my Western Digital World book external dr...
  • Cons: Remote sensor is weak and controls were sluggish until I upgraded the firmware which was a painless process. The new firmware offers some nice enhancements.

"Simply the best multimedia player ever..." INDEED!!!

Arnold I., Newegg
4 December 2009
  • Summary: I have yet to plug either the coax or fiber SPDIF into my home theater system (need to study for finals that I'll be taking this weekend! LOL!), as well as trying any of the various audio codecs. But, I have a feeling that I won't be disappointed!!!
  • Pros: I *LOVE* this player!!! I ordered it earlier this week, got it in 2 days, plugged it into one my Sony Bravia HDMI ports, set it up and got it sharing in minutes over my 802.11n(g) network. It's THAT easy! And, it DOES play ALL the popular video codecs! Made an ISO image of one of my DVDs and it w...
  • Cons: The kinks for the IMS services still need to be worked out. The unit resets when you try to play any YouTube video or access the weather over the Internet. DVICO's TViX website does state that this is a problem with the latest firmware and it will be fixed... But, this is not enough of a con to t...
