Pros: Nice quality picture and sound when it works. Season Pass is great.
Cons: Expensive and unreliable. When it breaks out of warranty (and it will if you keep it 3 years), you'll get hit with a big repair fee, which gets you a refurbished model that probably wasn't really fixed. Then, if you bought lifetime service, you can get
Pros: I love TiVo. My Series 2 is still going strong and this one worked great for about 2 years.
Cons: Now this machine is constantly freezing up and not working well with the cards. I've had the cards replaced by the cable company but it hasn't helped much. The shows are often scrambled now both when recording and watching it live.
Summary: Ok - here goes ! First - The Love: * TiVo's best feature- its great being able to watching programs on "your" schedule and not the "TV program" schedule. * Skipping thru the junk and commercials is heaven. You can watch 2 or 3 programs using TiVo in the same time you watch one live show. * Menus are easy to use and it's "smart" !
Cons: Have already had to replace one for a known problem that they can't fix. Now the replacement is doing the same thing as the first one. Tivo wants to walk me through all the same troubleshooting steps repeatedly.
Summary: I'll start the usual way all of these reviews seem to: I had a Series 1 and a Series 2 and I couldn't live without them, etc... So when I could afford a Series 3, and have HD capability, I snapped it up. Now I could use Tivo the way it was meant to be used... to *watch* TV and still see my HD signal. Yay. Don't get me wrong... it does almost everything it claims to very well. But the CableCard technology absolutely SUCKS. The cards go out repeatedly during the week.

Summary: The CableCard technology in the Tivo Series 3 still have a lot of bugs - I ended up needing to return mine because my cable company was unable to get the cable card slots to pick up anything except analog channels (no digital, no premium, and no HD). Without this capability, what's the point of upgrading from my Series 2?
