Summary: Horrible experience with this item... I usually like to rate my bad items with a 2 star but this was really worth a 1 star... the item is functional but the wifi quality is just bad. It took me 5 mins to connect to the internet despite the fact that my other items took seconds.
Summary: If you are serious about buying this, do what I failed to do before I wasted the money. Search for "Sony Netflix Interface" and see how many bad reviews there are, and for how long Sony has apparently not cared. I bought this specifically for use with Netflix. It is the worst Netflix interface of the 3 I have used. Compared to X-Box 360 and Wii this interface sucks. Don't rely on only the reviews on Amazon like I did.
Summary: I purchased this N100 in the hopes to receive a (space saver) do it all device as far as wi-fi players goes. I am very disappointed with the component/technical quality because I found that the player does not in fact receive signal well and its function responses are way too slow no matter where I place the unit in the house and even when switching out other working units. Maybe an external antenner or wifi adapter can make all the difference?
Pros: So many great features of programs if you can utilize them all. it is light & small and fits anywhere with all the audio jacking hook-up you'll need for quality sound.
Cons: Won't retrieve proper feed or transition so, what good is it having so many great features if you can't take advantage of them properly? Some users are saying it's because of a third party feed streaming. Well, I just know that it's junk!
Summary: Unit is a total piece of junk, do-not waste money on it. 98% of time tv shows "no signal" when unit is connected. To get it to work is total hit or miss. I have to turn it on and off many times to only get it to work the 2% of trys. When it does work, the menus for finding movies are terible. The movies are divided into categories of type of movie, but the listing of movies in them are not sorted in any way. This makes it very time consuming to find a movie to watch.
Summary: The Sony Media Player goes into bufffering mode every two or three minuts when streaming netflix, while other brands don't. we swapped for a second player, it does the same thing. I returned this item back and bought an Apple TV (awsome unit).
Summary: The Sony SMP-N100 has the very familiar Sony remote navigation. Very nice Netflix rendering including the ability to SEARCH Netflix and add titles to your favorites queue. The built in Wi-Fi works great. However, other than using this for viewing Netflix, the remaining online video offerings are a joke. This includes YouTube. It is terrible trying to search YouTube and it's impossible to find videos you KNOW are on YouTube.
Summary: I've been running a home media server for years now, starting out originally with a rather noisy PC connecting to SageTV server and eventually working my way to an Asus O!Play, WD Live, and most recently, this SMP-N100. The direction of the technology is fantastic. I wanted to like the SMP-N100, and for very base unit specifically just used to connect to Hulu Plus and NetFlix, the unit is certainly adequate.
Just bought this at Costco and will be returning tomorrow

Summary: I already have a WD media player that works great. I saw this at Costco and figured I could use one upstairs and it has wireless. I hooked it up and connected it to the internet with no problem. Youtube, Hulu and others worked great. Then I hooked up my 320gb external drive with all my movies on it, the same one I use on the WDTV. The Sony said this USB device isn't supported. I took the drive back down stairs and no problem it worked perfectly.
Summary: i wrote very positive review for this device previously but i have to change it a one star rating because i discovered a picture quality issue with this device. it seems to have trouble handling scenes with horizontal patterns. when there are non-parallel horizontal lines on the screen, there's some very noticeable anti aliasing issues. i tried restoring/updating to the firmware and it stills happening. i am encoding these files with x264 in mkv @ 720p.
