Sonos System is Great but the Play 5 is just Adequate

Summary: First, if you're not a Sonos user, this is not a standalone product. It's a system, and for the system to work, one component (any one) attaches via Ethernet to your your network for access to (a) the Internet and (b) your music library. If you're an iTunes user, it simply gathers the information from iTunes and uses the same music files.
Great sound quality, but problems in skipping the ends of songs
30 August 2013
Summary: Great sound quality, and compatibility with iTunes for managing library and playlists. However, it frequently skips to the next song, in the middle of the last one! I have tried troubleshooting, and rebooting, and nothing seems to work.
Summary: This product is great for listening to online radio, having multiple household members queue music they want to listen to. It's easy to setup, though requires internet connection. However, if you're looking for a quality sound system, get something audiophiles recognize, like Bose speakers. The quality of the sound is average. The speakers are overpriced for the quality of the sound it produces.
Pros: Easy To Transport, Great Interface, Stylish
Cons: Poor Sound Quality, Requires Internet Access
Summary: Love the concept, love the ease of setting up but.. We use it primarily as an internet radio since inside over the air reception is so poor. The system is designed to be operated with an app on an iPhone, tablet or laptop. That is fine for set up but, for some reason, when muted for a period of time (the only way to 'turn off the radio'), it drops the station and one has to relaunch the station using an iPhone. This is a real pain.
Pros: The ability to play music and radio from the internet
Cons: Needs to have a controller handy at all times
Summary: I heard great things about this speaker, however I was disappointed that it needs to be hooked into a computer in order to work. What I was expecting was a stand along speaker where I could pair it with my phone and just have it play that way. Now for the tons of music that I get online, I understand the need for the computer, however that was not what I understood from the way it was set up at Best Buy and from the reviews on other sites.
Summary: Bought the then called S5 about 2 years ago. Generally happy with it although connection often lost despite good WiFi signal. Failed to connect despite resetting after about 2 years of infrequent use. SONOS customer service offered replacement (not repair) for £110 a new unit with the broken one returned. Not impressive considering the high purchase price of almost £400!
Summary: I had originally had a sonos 5 for xmas and took it back for Samsung E750 as the sonos can not even come close for sound comparison. Also the sonos system uses a completely separate system rather than itunes and airplay. It says that it is compatible with itunes which is true because you can dump your itunes menu right into the sonos control program.
Summary: I loved Sonos to start with, bought three Play 5's and a Play 3. However love has turned to hate and I've never wanted to throw a tech product through the window as much as this. The problems starts when a Play is turned off at the mains, even worse if it's in a stereo pair. The pair becomes lost from the controller and no amount of factory resets, router resets etc. will fix it.
Summary: The speaker has fantastic sound, and particularly excellent punchy bass for music that requires it. I love the sound, and I have not exchanged the Sonos for another system for that reason. The design and build of the cabinet is also excellent, weighty enough to provide good sound response but small enough to fit most places. It is loud, in my lounge I never have it above about 30% of the possible volume. My problem with it is the software, for Mac and iPhone.
Summary: Placed order in November for a white sonos 5. Arrived promptly. However, after opening the box I realised I'd been sent a black one!!! A little disappointed. Even so, the sound quality is amazing. The link with my sonos 3 is superb - adds to the all round experience. Marked this product down due to the colour disappointment.
