Summary: This system works quite well once it's set up. However, there are some scenarios where the bridge or player is lost and requires re-adding. Recovering takes several hours of frustration, resetting of components, and trying different combinations just to get ***something*** to work. I'm a very technical person, so am not afraid of getting involved in technical details.
Summary: How frustrating to have such an expensive speaker that produces such high-quality sound and I can rarely use it. By limiting the speakers to using your Sonos software, you rule out 90% of what I use speakers for. I cannot use it for Youtube, books on tape, Netflix, etc. Additionally, I don't particularly like the software, and already have a music software I like.
Summary: I have never been less impressed with a product which received so many positive reviews. I purchased a Sonos Bridge and Play-5 speaker, and I wanted to control these through the Sonos Controller installed on my laptop (Win7-AMD64), but the controller software could not connect to the devices.
Cons: Hardware Incompatibility, No Diagnostic Messages, Software Incompatibility
Summary: Purchased the Sonos Play: 5 for home use. Objective was for use on the deck, in the garage and various rooms within the home. Repeatedly had to reset the unit, and most times, it would not pickup a signal within a 30 ft range. Returned it to the store for a refund. Too bad.... I really enjoyed the sound quality.
Summary: I could not get a consistent wireless connection in an adjacent room 60' from the bridge inspite of a good wifi connection over the same span. Calls to support yielded no correction unitil I gave up as not worth the time. Now it will not consistently connect wirelessly in the same room. An expensive paper weight.
Summary: Set up a play: 3 and play: 5 in the home. Had an iTunes / Airplay set up and wish that I could go back. Getting the wifi range you want is difficult with this setup. It's very bassy. It's proprietariness means that you're locked into it. Also at the same time ordered some for work for an important work reception. It never worked out of the box and so we had to take our home AirPlay into the event.
Cons: Bad Software Interface, Non-intuitive Set-up, Poor Sound Quality, Poor Wifi Range, Too Bassy
Summary: Why! Why! have you designed something that has to have the internet to setup. I have only a portable wireless internet modem. Checking the internet forums, I know I am not the only person in this situation. I have set up the network but cannot register your device. Irritation, frustration with your device and less than helpful website. PS You manuals and website are not good for a person with no familiarity with the equipment.
Summary: Was very disappointed when my sonos speakers now refuse to bond wirelessly and need to be plugged in after a recent move. Very frustrating to try to setup defective equipment (bad diagnostics, no feedback on what isn't working on the controller - finds device then loses it) and even more frustrating to be told I can send it back and pay $150+ for repairs.
Pros: Cool, Great Sound
Cons: Broke When Transported, Difficult to Transport, No Tech Support
Summary: Tried over course of several days but could not connect Play5 to bridge. Accompanying literature didn't address the problem (or, if it did, I couldn't find it.) Called Tech Support each day but it was closed and hours it was open didn't mesh with hours I was available to spend time with Tech Support. I've managed connectivity with a number of other components from different manufacturers and hadn't encountered same type of problems.
