Overall, a disappointment

Summary: Let me start off by saying that I have owned a Slingbox for over two years. And in that time, I've had it replaced TWICE. As others here have pointed out: when this thing works, it WORKS! The picture looks great, and the convenience of accessing your TV via the internet, from anywhere in the world, can't be overstated. However, there are a lot of times when it just doesn't work.
Summary: I purchased the Slingbox Solo so I could watch my TIVO any where in the world. 1 year later here is where I am at now. I was never able to get the Slingbox video out of my home network. In network it worked great. I tried several times using Slingbox's customer support but we never were able to get the signal out of the network. So I settled for at least I could watch the box in network. Now the box will not stream the video more then 30 seconds on my home network.
Summary: Update ---Dropped to 2 stars... .like many users my Slingbox worked for about a year and then died. Do youself a big favor and buy the Vulkano Flow Mobile Device for Viewing TV on the Go instead of the Slingbox ---------------------------------- I was a bit skeptical about the Slingbox solo - I was concerned that the set-up would be difficult and that the video quality would be poor. Well that simply is not the case, in fact it works a little better than I had hoped.
Summary: This could be a really great little device EXCEPT for the way they try to control your box. They use IR Blasters, which are these little wires that sticky tape to your box. I personally have never gotten these stupid little things to work with any device (tivo), maybe it's me, but there were MANY questions about IR problems on their support blog. Tech support said "Should be working, good luck" and washed their hands of me.
Summary: BE AWARE!! CUSTOMER SERVICE IS RUBBISH Bought this slingbox solo and had high hopes, ran into internet tv watching problems so decided to contact their customer services via web chat - bad idea, kept me waiting for nearly an 1 hr on the first occasion, then apologised and closed down my chat, office now closed, never even spoke to them - wonderful!!
Summary: I nw live just outside London and my TV reception for channels such as ITV, ITV4, Film 4 etc was poor/non-existent. So I installed a Slingbox at a family member's place in the northwest of England. If there is something I want to watch and it keeps breaking up (unwatchable) I can log into my remote slingbox and watch it from there if they are watching the same programme.
Summary: I have been a Sling user for over 6 years now - traveling a lot with my job and having my Sky box liberated so I can view it anywhere in the world with a decent internet connection has been a life saver. However, I would warn other potential buyers that this product *can* be highly temperamental and also very unreliable.
