Summary: My son calls it junk because it will not work and I guess it is. We can only do a wireless connection which this is supposed to do. It finds the wireless connection ok but it does not connect to the local network. So we can't use it. That makes it junk.
Summary: I don't know if all Roku Products are defective, I do know Amazon sold me a defective ROKU XR and will not exchange it for a working product. They may have sent me a used defective model. I called Roku Tech support, that verified it was defective, and that it should be replaced but said Amazon should replace it. So round and round we go, as if I were dealing with a bank.
Do not purchase this if you want warranty service!

Summary: The item in questions wireless lost signal strength after only 8 months of use. I called roku for warranty service and after dealing with there customer service which is in India or Pakistan, they inform me that I cannot get warranty service from them since i purchased it from amazon.com and that I need to contact them. Which is what I am doing right now and so far I have been told that I cannot return it to them as too much time has past since purchase.
Summary: This looked like a good idea, so I tried it out, and the initial setup was fairly easy, but then there was a network problem that I could not figure out so I called for tech support only to find that you have to leave a voice message and they will call you back. Four days later I recieved a call back, but I was at work and could not get to the unit.
Don't order directly from ROKU or expect customer service.

Summary: I ordered the newer version of this the XDS last night 9/22/10. They immediately sent me a confirmation for the older HD-XR version. I called them in India and emailed them and told them it was wrong and emailed them several times. (Waiting over 24 hours on the email replies still.) Today they still decided to ship me the older HD-XR version. I stopped payment on my credit card tonight (9/23).
Summary: I just got off the phone with Roku support regarding the N wireless on their XR model. The Roku box is 45 feet from the wireless access point and is very slow fetching a movie, like a minute or two before it starts. I streams ok once it starts. Both of my laptops work flawlessly at this range and beyond. The response I got from Roku is that their wireless is different than other wireless and is only good for 40 to 50 feet.
Summary: I wish I could report that my experience with the Roku HD-XR Player was as positive as the five star reviewers'. They should consider themselves lucky. As background: I purchased a Panasonic TC-P50G15 HDTV earlier this year, partly on the promise that the "infinitely upgradable" Vieracast feature would shortly offer Netflix streaming. Now that Panasonic has announced the addition of this feature, it applies only to forthcoming 2010 models.
Summary: 10/25/10 Okay, so The Roku player is seriously a complete piece of dark brown stuff. I have since replaced it with a Sony PS3 and I am no longer stressed when watching television. I plan on using my Roku player for target practice some day. Until that day, it comfortably collects dust on the top shelf of my office closet. So, I probably shouldn't be reviewing this product right now, as I'm super pissed at my Roku player.
Summary: My issue with the product itself is that it can't play HD on my 1080i TV. There are actually understandable technical reasons for this (which I won't bore you with), but I wish this had been made clear by Roku, as most HD products (like cable boxes) are compatible with all versions of HDTVs. My issue with the company is that they have some of the worst service I've ever dealt with.
Summary: I received my Roku HD-XR on Dec 23rd. A half hour after completing the setup, the wireless system failed. I called their service, my first question was should I talk to them, or to Amazon. They said no, I should talk to them. After an hour+, they agreed the wireless system failed. I received a reference number, and assurances they would send me a replacement.
