Excerpt: Easy to setup and use. I've never heard of most of channels offered and many of those also require fees. I think its over priced for what it offers. I prefer using Googlecast which can be controlled using a small tablet or smart phone and has a large selection of Apps available. The best solution for TVs that don't have ethernet is using a network Laptop and HDMI connection which allows you to download most Premium channels.
Pros: Attractive Design, Fast Setup, Simple Controls
Cons: Does Not Improve Audio/Video , Limited Quality Channels
Summary: first of all let me just say I was really excited about buying this product.after reading all of the reviews, and what it had to offer. There are 3 different models but my main reason for choosing this one was because it allows you to use USB ports, and it has HBOgo okay so now that's the good stuff.Actual reality is the USB ports do not work by themselves you have to download an app to get them to read your files and the app do not work very well, and the HBO Go only works...
Pros: tons of apps to choose from nice compact size, and it has a very very fast processor.the remote is nice because it has a headphone jack but its not a make or break.
Cons: I paid the higher price for this one because it has HBO Go, and it has USB SD card slot.was very disappointed HBO only works with certain providers.so Comcast subscribers don't even try it will not work. And the USB ports or horrible.
Excerpt: I returned this product as one still needs a seperate controller to operate the television. With the Vizio Stream Player, the device controls everything including the TV and the cable box. No other controller is needed.
Summary: Roku was going to be my gateway away from High Cable Bills! It does have free shows and movies, but the commercials are long, and often, worse than normal TV. If you already have Netflix or Amazon Prime, I guess it would be a good device to view these premium/paid programming on but I do not.
Netflix menus need a serious update. No Netflix Kids.
2 September 2013
Summary: Really disappointed with Netflix on this machine. The menus are stuck in 2011. All of the advanced features available on other players are absent on the Roku. Roku forums discussion about this topic yielded angry fanboys who want to brag about hundreds of channels, and blame Netflix for the lack of updates. Then they said I was making a big deal out of nothing, because I could just add them to the Instant Quene another computer, then play them on the Roku.
Pros: Fast. Lots of channels (see cons). Great HD video quality, once it buffers.
Cons: Netflix menus are not up to par with newer updates to other players. No Youtube. No bitstream audio out (even my RCA player has that).
Summary: This is not the best streaming box and I should have never got it. When I received it when it first came out I activated it and loaded Neftlix. I was shocked to see how butt ugly Netflix looked. The artwork is squished and low resolution. There is no Netflix Kids etc. When streaming you could not even see the quality of the video or how much time was left.
Pros: Small., Uses Little Power., Ethernet and Dual-Band Wireless.
Cons: Netflix channel is butt ugly and dated with no features., Streaming performance is bad with Netflix., Ads on the channel screen. I pay for a product why should I get ads.
Summary: I have a lot of streaming boxes that I purchased over the years, none of them is perfect but this one is by far the worst I had. I purchased the roku 3 last week at a big box retailer and I returned it two days later, thanks god for satisfaction return policies.
Pros: Sleek design, Neat remote
Cons: Very poor channel choice (Canada), No YouTube, Had to reboot twice in one night
Summary: I'm a big believer of future's movie and video service will be network and cloud based. The little box come out from Apple which call Apple TV caught my attention right away when it's available, even though it's not a huge deal in any respects. Roku 3 is a attempt to further that idea as to compete. But I have the most disappointment for the video quality. Most of the reviews I read has been talking about features and all, many compare that with Apple TV.
Pros: - Headphone on remote control is a neat feature, - simple interface, - the channel developers can improve the user experience tremendously if they get on their act.
Cons: - poor video quality, - streaming inconsistency, - Interface design is not very attractive, and it's lacking depth.
