Roku 3 Review

BigPictureBigSound
5 April 2013
  • Conclusion: There are a lot of media streamers on the market. Without a doubt, every one of them has perks and provides a little something that your system didn't previously have. That said, it's hard to beat the options that are being offered under the tiny chassis of the Roku 3. Not all of them are freebies or selections that you'd actually be interested in, but there are just enough -- and you could spring for a few too, you cheap-o.
  • Pros: Endless entertainment for under $100, Supports 1080p, 7.1 and 5.1 sound for all (where available), Hundreds of programming choices, Integrated headphone jack on the remote
  • Cons: Plastic or a Paypal account is required for setup, No official YouTube channel (but there are workarounds), No 3D support, No PC-based streaming, Device is always on

Roku 3

PC Magazine
22 March 2013
  • Conclusion: The Roku 3 adds an interface overhaul along with a nifty remote-mounted headphone jack for private listening, but the Roku 2 is a better buy.
  • Pros: New interface is faster to navigate and is more intuitive than with previous Roku boxes. Quick menu navigation. Integrated/cross channel search is incredibly useful.
  • Cons: No out-of-the-box local streaming. App only currently available for iPhone/iPod Touch.

Roku's speedy streamer is the best box yet

CNET
11 March 2013
  • Summary: The Roku 3 is the best streaming-video box yet, with tons of content sources, lightning-fast performance, and an innovative remote with built-in headphone jack.
  • Cons: The Apple TV still works better within the Apple ecosystem. And the Roku 3 isn't the best option if you're mostly looking to stream your personal digital media collection.

Roku 3 Review

LAPTOP Magazine
8 March 2013
  • Summary: The Roku 3 is a first-rate media-streaming device at a great price, turning any TV into a smart TV. We love the compact design, personal listening feature and slicker interface. On the other hand, the game selection is pretty shallow, and we wish Roku offered both YouTube and Google Play as channels and video streaming from mobile devices.
  • Pros: Slick and compact design, Much improved search interface, Headphones offer personal listening with headphone jack, Huge number of channels available, USB port for media playback, Can stream photos and videos from mobile devices
  • Cons: No YouTube Google Play support, Gaming selection limited, Can't stream video from mobile yet

Pocket Lint
1 November 2013
  • Excerpt: Roku has refreshed its Roku set-top box lineup and with it announced the launch of the Roku 3, a £100 flagship box of tricks that promises to turn your TV into something considerably smarter.
  • Pros: Small, easy to setup, lots of services supported, microSD and USB support, headphone jack on remote for quiet listening, 1080p support
  • Cons: Lots of dross apps in app store, can't buy movies or shows, no 4oD or ITV player, nine tile limit in interface & not best use of interface space
