Summary: I bought this product and I have to say I am a bit disappointed. Apart from doing what it says,in, playing all kinds of important formats for me(flac,mp3,...) from your HD, I have a few problems with it. First is the video quality. I have looked around but I found no one complaining about worse IQ of video, and especially photos, if I run files trough HMP player then if I connect HD directly to my philips TV.
Summary: Before you buy one of these, make sure you have a good broadband service.Yes there is a good selection of films/programmes on netflix, especially for kids but our sky broadband isnt very good and films are constantly "loading" thats after you have struggled to get the thing on in the first place.
Summary: Bought this unit from another supplier (not Amazon) and have since returned it. I bought it primarily as a Netflix streaming box for my daughter's bedroom. Easy to set it up, just plug in the power and a HDMI cable (HDMI cable not supplied, as is the norm with penny-pinching companies like Philips nowadays).
Summary: I am very disappointed with this media player, I was expecting so much more. OK, it plays media files perfectly well through the USB slot (apart from AVI files, it doesn't play those at all despite what it says on the box), with a bit of a time-lag for reading the files at first. "Turn your TV into a smart TV" it says on the box - what rubbish!
Summary: Unfortunately I'm having to return this for a full refund. I'd advise anyone looking at this unit to be aware of the following. First, the description on Amazon (which is taken from Philips' website) says `With built-in Wi-Fi, you can access your media content wireless (sic). Say goodbye to squinting at the computer screen, and lean back and enjoy your media files on your TV - in the comfort of your living room.
