Summary: There are a flood of these devices on the market right now, and it can be hard to choose what to pick for your home entertainment center. I tried this along with a Micca and a Dune HD1 for comparison, and while this player was fast and could handle most of my media, it fell short due to some issues with compatibility, power settings, interface, and general usability. First things first, the power settings are a bit confusing. There are three states: on, off, and sleep.
Summary: I bought this device, because I needed another media player that would work with my TV that didn't have HDMI (but did have component). While the player did a good job down-converting 1080P movies, the user interface was simply illegible. Once I hooked this player up to a TV with HDMI, the UI looked tons better.
"I'll agree with the pure garbage comment. NTV300"

Pros: Hooks up easily. HD to the TV.
Cons: I want to view free internet entertainment content. And, there is free content, just none I want to watch. Anything that I might want to watch that would be free to view over the air or free with my PC is not available.
Summary: I've been using this for a couple of years as a player for media stored on my local network. I also use it occasionally to listen to internet radio. It works well for these two tasks. However, the promised firmware updates (e.g., streaming services like Netflix and Pandora) never happened. I cannot recommend this product in 2012 even as a player for local media content...unless Netgear actually follows through on promised updates, but that is unlikely at this point.
Poor customer support, All features are not useable

Summary: If you intend to purchase this component for network streaming, then the NTV550 is perfect for that. If you intend to purchase this component for online streaming (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime) then please do not purchase this product. There is a section designated for streaming, however when you select it, you are given the message this feature is not available and will be in a future firmware release. This has been going on for 6 months for me.
Not compatible with many formats and other problems...............

Summary: The first problem I encountered was with RGB cable connection. Looked like overscanning but Tech support could not determine why. By accident I decided to connect with HDMI cable and that fixed the problem. The second problem is that this player is not compatible with many formats. The problem was that I could not play standard AVI files which I played for years on Linksys Media Extender and Sony PS3 without any problems. Linksys broke so I bought NTV550.
Summary: Maybe I'm expecting too much from a media player. This is the third media player I've tried and while it's the best of the three that isn't giving it kudos by any means. Set up was easy enough, getting my hard drive to the way the player liked it was more painful. Initially everything I tried after copying a file on the drive resulted in the player finding no media and then going back to the pc telling me that the file had been corrupted.
Keine Kaufempfehlung.
